Is it me, or did Cubasis just leapfrog to the best keyboard sampler in the App Store?

Mini sampler is great. The only thing I could wish for is multilayered samples.

  • It really does kick ass for sure. :)

  • Opinions gentlemen please.....?

  • I haven't dug into it much but it will have a hard task to de-throne keyboard samplr in bm2 which is AFAIK based on the old emu samplers.

  • Beatmaker2 does alot more sample wise with layers etc

  • I think it's very very good, super easy to use too, just finished the video today, it's due for Monday morning sometime, but I really found it very intuitive and simples, has a good set of editing tools too, the fact this is a free update is, well, hello.

I would have paid for this

I'm going to have to check it out. I know a lot of people love it, but I haven't been able to get into beatmaker2

  • I like it... I was playing with a few samples today... definitely glided along with my workflow...

  • The Minisampler in Cubasis is a joy to use, it's super fast with just about the right amount of editing tools. But as usual a few things are missing.

    • Transpose/Tune the 'root-note'.

    • Overlaping zones with cross-fade.

    • Layering of sapmles.

Other grips are Cubasis's inability to select multiple files when deleting in the media-bay that would be nice for 'house-keeping' after a sampling-session since all the sounds are duplicated and 'baked-in' into the Minisampler-Instrument. Deleting mulltiple files can be done over wifi though but inside Cubasis it's one by one...

Also I can't seem to be able to change the default pads for Minisampler that seem to default to 'chords'. I can edit the pads and store them with the instrument but need to do this for all new Minisampler instruments I create, same when i tried to use the pads to play drums using iM1, the pads defaulted to 'chords' :(

But for a first release it's very, very good and I feel that the Minisampler will improve over time and get added features, maybe some day it will have full soundfont support and basic per/layer or even per/sample with envelopes for picth, filter and amp/pan with modulation :)

Yes, BeatMaker 2 may have More features but the ui & file-handling is a mess that keeps me away from using it...

  • Transpose/Tune the 'root-note'.

    Overlaping zones with cross-fade.

    Layering of sapmles.

In fact the very features that distinguish a good sampler from casio sk series.

    That made me laugh! :-)

Why do people try to reinvent the wheel when all we want is shiny alloys at low profile tyres ;-)

  • Can't layering be done by just, you know, playing two notes at once?

    Maybe not ideal, but still.

Honest question by the way. Haven't messed around with Mini Sampler beyond the initial testing after download.

  • Casio SK-1 for $1.91 'hardware' for around the same prices point as some Apps for iOS...

I do prefer the Cubasis version for some strange reason ;)

  • Samu, had one of those back in the day! Lol ;-)

  • I prefer bm2 version for what it's worth. Courses for horses. Or the other way around.

  • @supadom Beatmaker 2 has it strengths that's for sure. But the file-managing needs a 'face-lift'(no easy way to move files), guess that's why everyone is waiting for 'BeatMaker 3'.

I'm also super annoyed at the 'trim-function' in BeatMaker 2, it's so easy to loose the selection when zooming in/out of the sample, why can't there be 'locators' on top of the time-line just like when editing loop-points or when setting chop-marks that can be used to set the selection just arrggghhhhhhhh!

  • Once I got their logic I stopped having issues with file management. Audio copy works perfectly in and out. Even less so with audio trim. Things weren't obvious at first though.

I see people salivate over cubasis but every time I start a project I get stuck within minutes. That didn't used to happen with bm2 and certainly not gadget. Midi editing is so important in apps like this and I don't really understand why steinbeg don't sort it out.

As said before, we all have different ways of doing things and get irritated more by some things more than others. Such is life.

  • Deep down where the dark things are I dream that much as I have very real hopes for Auria Pro (it is my DAW of choice, so of course I want what's next) and for some rebirth of Nano Studio (it was my first love, so of I course I want it again), BM3 will come roaring out of left-field and become the beast to beat....

  • If wishes were horses.

I doubt there is ANYBODY left in this forum that don't know your BM2 preference ;-)

In my opinion...and yes,i mentioned that before as well :-) ...the UI from Bm and especially the sampler is terrible,i never created just ONE instrument with it.Way to much work (of course more options as well) and the filter sounds to cheap to my ears to play in the same league like EMU

BUT,i still think the BM2 drumsampler is the best on iOS and i still would love to have it standalone. Is BM2 usable as IAA node?Don't like to install it again just to test it...and i don't like the bloat.

Anyway, the Minisampler is a joy to use and a great first version.Classic sampling never made more fun to me.I don't need complex multilayer etc but i would love to see more synthesizer options like a filter,LFO and a tune function for the samples. But i'm quite sure this will be added later.

  • @LFS It would be nice if we could in the next version of the Cubasis 'Minisampler' Traspose & Tune the 'Root-Note'.

I think that 'time-stretch' would also appreciated by many users.

A 'multi-select' for the 'Media-Bay' would be a welcome addition and make it easier to batch-delete files instead of doing it one file at the time...

Over all it's a very good first version :)

  • Funny enough I don't even have it installed anymore as I'm not doing much mixing, mostly looping. If I were to do any serious recording I'd probably do it in logic however I dislike the click of the mouse.

  • bm2 might be the best drumsampler on iOS, but not for drum sampling... there's allot better for that.
