Postcard from New England

Two of my favorite things in the world (apart from Mrs. Goodyear and our boy, who are purely a matter of respective biology after all) are a restaurant in Belfast, Maine ('Chase's Daily') and the light in the early evening as it falls across the far end of my work room here on to two small abstracts of Manhattan that were bought long ago. I got both of these pleasures, lunch and light, in the same day today. Pretty good and grateful also. Short backing track from the new version of Figure. Wish you were here etc.

(For those wishing for a frame of reference, Madam's face at the very end -the pursing of her eyes- is a fair version of how she looks at me when I mention there's this one new app I really think will be useful to me.... :)

  • always a pleasure to see and hear your work Mr. Goodyear. cheers...

  • @JohnnyGoodyear Awesome. Audio/Video Postcards FTW.

@JohnnyGoodyear Great job! The music has a tranquil sound and the melody is hypnotic, which goes well with the tracking shots around the market/restaurant and the cuts to the semi static shots of the pictures on the wall. I also like how your wife stares into the camera and squints at the end (shots like that are magical). What version of iPhone did you use and what do you use to edit?

  • Thanks guys. Appreciate the note(s). The phone's just a typical i5 using the Cinematic app. Didn't really edit anything just. Just cut two sixty second shaky shots together with eyeballed intervals and added a few dissolves in Adobe.

    It was a good day.

This makes me feel good. I enjoy the music and the video even more knowing a bit of the inspiration behind the scenes! Thanks @JohnnyGoodyear !

  • Nice atmosphere, nice snippet and slice of life.

    This

  • Very effective use of 2 video scenes and the hypnotic music just keeps you watching! I am always struggling for inspiration for video ideas - just goes to show you don't need anything fancy (except a nice family! ;) ) to create a great video! :)

  • Thanks again fellows. I know it's a trivial little GTKY* thing, but it was fun (and quick) to put together and I would like to see the same from many of you. We are such a similar but different bunch, especially by way of geography...

  • Awesome! Maine looks inviting! ;-)

  • Thanks for the peak at the Goodyear family....that was fun and that's a cool song too!

And it looks like I won't make it to New England anytime soon, however I just returned from a very good trip to Kansas City (a great music town). I am probably done with non-business travel for a while.

KC was a lot more fun than I expected when I was there....as for Maine, sorry that you won't be up this time around, but when I finally haul my L.L.Bean-clad arse back to Austin let's grab that coffee....

  • Eerie and lovely, Johnny. The video adds to it beautifully- I imagine these sorts of images come when we die as well as when we dream.
Thanks, it's gonna be a scorcher in London today and though I have to work, this has put me in a happy creative mood!

  • Thanks @Vorgon. Happy creative moods are never to be sniffed at :)

I love the word scorcher as used in England to describe the weather. I have dined out (as it were) many times in Austin by telling the story of a summer day in England (79 maybe, was a hot year) when it was in the nineties and some tabloid's front page headline was 'PHEW WHAT A SCORCHER!' this idea makes the Texans of all stripes giggle and reinforces the lazy stereotype that we're all odd ducks, which for reasons of my own is a useful ruse....
