GoodReader update upgrade and sale
GoodReader 4 is now released, which is a separate upgraded app from the original good reader. The intro for GoodReader 4 is 60% off.

Insta-purchased it. I've been using the older version (which also got an update today with fixes and features) for years, and have been recieving free updates for all those years. Making the new version a separate app instead of adding some IAP was a really good move, and supporting this dev with a measly 3-4 bucks again after all these years is a no brainer.
GoodReader is an awesome product with uses ranging far beyond the music world, but I JUST paid the $5 for the iPhone version, and I did that for the specific reason of downloading Soundfont zip files, only to find out that AudioShare already has the ability to unzip files (though i think GoodReader is better at extraction from certain webpages).
GoodReader still does a lot of other cool stuff, like PDF viewing and saving YouTube videos to your device. But I can't justify another purchase for the same thing until I need it.
So, if I don't have either should I buy the old or the new version. The new version is cheaper, does it mean it has limited functionality? Mmmm, confused.
It's an intro sale. Same functionality with added feature and now universal. Get the new ver.
I would argue the iPhone version of the old model was "universal" in the sense that it worked just fine on both iPad and iPhone. I don't always object to separate paid versions for iPhone and iPad but for essentially a utility manager that did the same thing on both, I thought it wasn't a great move with consumers. The new version being universal seems to acknowledge that, but then again, there's a NEW paid version.
Great app, and if you don't have it, yes, buy the new version.
Used Goodreader for ages, it's useful, but I recently switched to iFiles which gives much more options for how folders are displayed with many different icons to choose from. This aesthetic choice sees me happy. Not sure if iFiles goes as deep as Goodreader, but it seems pretty Multi-functional.
I do still use them both though.
Anytune Pro+ can download audio from youtube videos directly and it's on AB...

Anytune Pro+ never worked for me to download anything, it crashes and will not connect.
Goodreader is a good choice, and is usefull in so many other ways too..
Goodreader ca now synch via iCloud plus you can password protect it. Way more useful ( and it always was good)

Always worked fine for me...
Same with me about using Goodreader for years (both iPad & iPhone versions). Bought the new version as well, even though the old version does everything I need, simply because the developer has always taken care of the app and provided free upgrades.
I've tried most file managers, and none have the same amount of servers/hosts protocols support. I use combination of my local network (which consists of a Linux based NAS and a regular Win/PC), cloud storages and email attachments on different accounts. And GoodReader have so far been the most reliable and most compatible file handler for iOS when it comes to handling all these various protocols. And it doesn't hurt that it can extract so many different formats ether.
Really liking the page view/edit for PDFs in the new version (it wasn't there before believe). You can rearrange pages, extract pages (into new PDFs), append pages, and whatever else is possible now.
An iDevice without GoodReader is really a bit like an isolated island.

The new version do actually have a new selectable icons view. Not sure if you can change the look of the graphics tho, but it can atleast be set to show thumbnails though (finally). But a few more options for how a folder icon can look wouldn't hurt (at least common stuff like pictures, videos, audio, PDFs, docs)

I've used Goodreader since '11 but have been jealous at Readdle Documents because they have drag and drop (much beter than Goodreader's UI).
Maybe this is the moment to try their PDF Expert.

+1 to iFiles!
I hadn't heard anything about this. I've been using GoodReader since the original iPad came out and it's been absolutely essential, but from a quick look I can't really see anything to get excited about with this update other than the new icon.
iFiles on sale for £0.69 / $0.99. Universal
GoodReader on sale again $0,99.
Goodreader is great. Includes Dropbox support and has now added text-to-speech. Well worth the money!

GoodReader is probably the app I've used the longest the most. Don't remember when I got it, but it was on my iPad 1 and iPhone3. I have several 200-700MB PDFs in it and rarely have any issues with it. When I originally got it all the other PDF readers would choke at files in the 25-50MB range. Only have ~250 PDFs in it now, but I had more than double that in it before I retired.
Bought the new version last night at $.99 instantly. Would have bought it full price instantly as well.
This would be the first app I bought if I had to start buying apps all over again for some reason. Not only is it my primary PDF repository, but its often my goto app for accessing DropBox and is the first place I look to see if I file I misplaced is there.
EDIT: Just started the migration to the new version, I have nearly 9GB in my GoodReader 3, looks like I need to uninstall a few apps, 4.5 GB worth, to make space to do the migration to GoodReader 4, then reinstall them afterward. Something to think about before you upgrade. The upgrade detects this, displays a message with the space available, the space needed, and then gives you the option to cancel before it continues.
