Stepping away from iOS music...
...was such an Instant relief. Not looking for the next fancy device or app (specially apps!) feels so good after 3-4 years of chasing the newest toys. Only focusing on what I already got (Logic Pro x ) feels so good for real. Giving away my iPad Pro 2017 to a friend for good has changed my life in a positive way. Not missing any of it. Just mentioned cause ive realized how long I totally forgot about this forum here. Not to make any one feel bad, just to share my experience with you. Keeping my iPhone anyways 😚

I’ve started buying hardware again but going to use my iPad to control it.
Glad to see you’re back. Now you can install NS2 on your iPhone. Problem solved!
Well, it's going to get better... And Logic may even come to ios... And Blocs Wave got Ableton Link Start/Stop.. Lots happening here...
oh... and sEGments..
🙄
Just a tool - use it, don’t use it, incorporate it into your workflow or drop it. Either way have fun!
Mhh, for me it gone worse. I started with only iOS for some years, then gone mac, then mac and iOS, then only mac, then considered iOS only again and now i am back to mainly mac but also start again collecting iOS apps.

Lol, what a trap.
The funny (or sad) thing is it is hard to feel so creative again when i was using just NS1 mainly, sampled stuff into TRG (like movie scenes), used Alchemy and Sunrizer as only add on synths (but Alchemy would still my choice Nr.1. if the good old Camel Audio apps would still exist for me).
Now even with NS2 it is not the same euphoric feeling.
At the same time i often would miss now some tools i never even heard of some years ago but then sometimes less is more indeed. The next day it is simple as more is more.
Oh, i am lost.
But yeah, give me Logic on iOS and i delete everything there and can use the same projects on mac and iOS (plus a few on top maybe). O.k. give me Logic and Drambo
I wonder what happens if they would announce Logic for iOS on Monday. Indeed a reason i would buy a new iPad the next day maybe. It sounds harsh but it is simple that all these little apps with IAP and all these synths, FX and midi apps cross the line in features, get hyped, forgotten, used once and never again.
Logic would solve that all and alone the rumors let me stop buying apps now again since it would render 99% of them useless. I am just not sure if such a complex app would work really. But that is Apple´s job to do
And yes, like mentioned they are all just tools and you should not adopt to a tool but the tool should adopt to your workflow. Otherwise you might get not happy.
Also true, things get better indeed (but some things also get worse at the same time).
The one thing i miss in iOS is better mixing tools but mostly we get the next great synth or sampler (which even not sample sometimes).
I want to see more innovative workflow speed ups like multi-instance editing systems since these things are especially useful for me to avoid switching between apps and screens etc.
Things behind simple panning. Good spatialization does not exist yet. Maybe these sounds like advanced features and a niche market but i am just a semi-talented hobbyist and i really WANT such features. It is like going from flatland to 3D in sound.
What i find sad also is that many really fantastic ideas born on iOS seems abandoned and/or not get further development for some reason (bad market, too niche, whatever). Things like Finger Fiddle. Man, i love it and it can create better string FX as with the most expensive Kontakt libraries but at the end it is useless as it is or so a pain to include in any workflow. There are more examples of this.
Samplr, Borderlands, ThumbJam, DrumJam while still get updates they feel like they still just not where they could be.
I canceled Netflix and wake up everyday with a renewed sense of hope for humanity.
+1.
I tend to think of the iPad as an instrument, and desktop as a studio. Last year I was hardly using it for music, but getting back into using it more again now.
finally got to the end of Ozark, so i’m hoping the feeling of creeping dread will dissipate soon!
Lady Dynamite was helping but that was all too soon devoured.
I’m using my brothers family member log in, so any sense of hope is really his decision right now!
Good luck! i was told Ozark may feast on the more sensitive parts of my psyche (wee bit of trust issues? Not sure) so I managed to steer clear but the pandemic vibe totaly got me sucked into Mr Robot on Prime. Telling myself when season 4 gets on there, ok it is the last one then I’m out, for good. All of em. Sure.
all the stuff my partner wants to watch turns out to be on Prime!! so I’m keeping it at bay as long as possible..
Now that Cubasis is on Android, I’m outta here!
🤣
I hope logic is never seeing a iPad version. Why would they put such a deep and complex programm to the iPad, when it’s perfectly fits on the mac? I mean, iOS already has garage band. Isn’t that enough? Not thinking they doing so. Why would they??
Nah´It would be great to could open the same projects on a powerful iPad and mac, or not?
Yeah, it is great on mac and maybe it is impossible to port in a good way to iOS but for me personally there is just not one iOS DAW i am happy with or could say i will do all my tracks there. And i just need maybe 5% of Logic´s features but most of them are non-exist in any iOS DAW or are really not great to use. Auria Pro comes close but from all iOS DAWs it feels more like a desktop tool indeed.
NS2 would be my choice if it added some (for me) standard options i use all the time.
But it is of course already possible to do amazing things on iOS which people her prove all the time and i like some things on iOS more than on my mac too and sometimes wish it would be there. Give me Drambo for mac f.e. i would pay a good bunch.
Mom: That’s nice. It is lovely when people can publicly acknowledge there mistakes.
haha it’s becoming a monthly occurrence to come to an ios music forum and tell us you’re leaving ios music🤣 ... are you gone yet or still telling us you’re leaving im so confused...
like when people are leaving your house but keep saying bye then talking more in the door way letting all my expensive air conditioner air out..🤷🏻♂️
Well I'm busting balls in a good natured way I hope, I mean I do wish @mistkerl all the best, sincerely. But even he must have seen the threads just about every week or so from someone like Sam who would make some grand exit...
The reason I'm so gung ho about iOS Music Production is because I see it as it's own unique platform. While everything created in the apps can be exported to a desktop DAW in some manner I see it as it's own ecosystem and like the self-contained nature of everything on this glass slate the size of a magazine.
I remember how much fun recording was the first few years I was learning as a teenager, recording on cassette multitracks. The immediacy, the tactile response of faders, knobs & buttons and the portability (i.e. I could plug the machine in on a plug in the bathroom to record an acoustic guitar, etc).
I get those same feelings working on the iOS platform. But after all that, it's just a set of tools, and whether it's on iOS, desktop, my phone's memo recorder or those old Tascam PortaStudio's, the bottom line is making music & having fun. Whatever floats your boat as they say, do you...Just don't condescend or piss on other musicians processes.
I decided not to eat meat. Now my house is full of frightened cows seeking sanctuary. Can’t win for losing. But hey, at least I don’t have to read posts on the Flesh Eaters Forum anymore.
This seems to be a weird music forum tradition. “I’m leaving _________ “. Be that eurorack, hardware, software, iOS, etc. etc. etc.
TMI dude.
I’m stepping away to use the loo.
Logic is awesome. the new update is especially great. Having reason as a plug in is awesome too.
I can’t use logic on the throne though.
iOS is the best platform for making music at times and places I can’t use Logic. Which is most times and most places for me.
This week I have mainly stepped away from using my Akai CD3000i.
Despite being left seemingly unguarded, I will not be stepping towards your Akai CD3000i.
Please make sure this makes it into the memes thread.
More noise and less music! Erm...
Yes. 1000% this. I actually fully migrated away from Logic because it’s not realistic for me to pull up my MacBook all the time. But I can start stuff on my iPhone. Then I can either finish it on my iPhone as I have so far or, as I’m trying now, airdrop to my iPad and gradually work on it from there.
