This is true. In practice it's not really much of an issue imho though. Generally people have an fx chain so, most of the time they know which node is which app and a simple pull of the node to the right reveals it's name. I get that it takes an extra millisecond but I suspect for most it's really a non issue.
Overall these fx are stellar. I have FF but these are so lightweight and with the increased knob controls it is getting easier to control. With a stylus it's pretty great. Can really dial in some nice sounds.
Really glad they added a separate compressor to the mix as well as a few more master fx in Reelbus. The reverb is pretty great also.
The icons are pretty ugly but what lies inside is pretty damn beautiful.
I play around a lot with different fx chains in AUM, I suspect that many do this, so it is definitely an issue for some of us
I just asked the dev about the icons and they are quite responsive.
New icons with the name of the app in the image are already up for approval in the app store. They said they should be up in a couple of days depending on how quickly apple approves them.
I agree with @dendy that hosts like AUM could be improved by displaying the name, not just the icon. If you have a large number of apps, it gets difficult very quickly to recognize all of them just by the icon!
+1
Personally Iâd hate if Aum displayed all the app names in the mixer view. The workflow and interface is quite sleek, I donât see a great need for redundant information cluttering up the GUI. Itâs basically a non-issue for 99% apps beside the 4pockets stuff and now TB, which is apparently already submitted for an update.
I know that in Mozaic, you can set a âshort nameâ of six characters that AUM and other hosts will use to display the name with an app icon. It seems like the TB apps arenât making use of that attribute.
That might be something to bring up with them.
Being able to 'scale up the fonts' would be my #1 request...
...don't really like using a magnifying glass to read the screen...
Theyâre definitely an awful step down, but Fabfilter didnât do themselves any favors with that tacky, hideous gain slider plum in the middle of the new Saturn icon.
in AUM you can slide the icon over to reveal the name of the plugin underneath, but would be useful to have a show name mode like in apeMatrix. I don't have any Toneboosters but this would annoy me too.
Agreed. Music app icons ...meh. most are pretty lousy.
The actual interface is much more of a frustration if it's poorly designed. e.g. I want to buy SEGments but I don't think i can handle those bizarre color combinations. no rhyme or reason to them. +1 for an option to 'choose' colors or turn to black/ grey or b/w
Thereâs not really room in AUMâs UI to accommodate that. It would really clutter things. Most devs have unique icons for their individual apps. Itâs not difficult to become familiar with the icon of an app so you know which is which.
Having the name of the app was nice because it gave us that differentiator. If they want to take that away, thatâs fine, but they should find some way to modify the icon for each app to make it distinguishable from the others. Pretty standard marketing stuff.
Basically I donât care about the looks of an icon but I think that it is important that each app has a different icon. The image can be the same but just give it a different color or something that will help me to get an easy visual distinction. If i jam in AUM I need the fastest way to distinguish and that is a picture or a color not written words.
I have the same issue with 4pocketsâ apps.
But appart from that I really like tone boosters they remain 5-star apps.
New icons (or should we say old icons) are on their way - awaiting Apple approval. Given the rather overwhelming preference for the orange icon with a dark background, and a name included in there, you'll soon see all apps updated (see exemplary icon below). Hope this helps everyone!
Dev of the year right here boys! Thanks!
Thank you!
Upscaling the fonts inside these great apps is another wish...
đ
Haha, this is a perfect example of 'you can't please everybody'. I like the colour scheme of sEGments a lot.
I still think these TB icons should be easier distinguished, as someone said above. At least different colours. Exact same icon with different names doesn't really cut it
@DJB iOS specific manual are not existent. I too would like more details on certain functionalities.
Updated icons have arrived!

@DJB Thank you đ
Hi @DJB - first of all, wow! Great responsiveness to user input. It's a tough crowd here.
As long as you're here ...
AUM and some other hosts make use of audioUnitShortName, if present, below the icon: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/audiotoolbox/auaudiounit/2879329-audiounitshortname. Coming up with anything meaningful to display in the six characters that are displayed is a challenge. But, I thought I'd mention it.
Super +1 on addressing this issue so quickly!
The AU short name is six UPCASE characters, so this is a little rough. With having distinction at the icon level back (including app names!), I think this has become more of an optional item.
However, I do appreciate this particular feature very much in Mozaic, since there this string can be (re-)set from within the user scripts.
sry for derail but just had to chip in seeing some ppl claiming TBs are more lightweight than FFs.. its just not true. so lets get this out of the way,

FFilters (vanilla, no x4 oversampling enabled) and TB tested here, i get the about the same cpu usage. tbh no difference until you engage âHogModeâ on FF
What an iconic developer!
đ
Thatâs how you build a loyal user base.
Hell yeah thatâs much better. Thanks for the quick response too, @DJB
Brilliant - thanks for excellent apps and customer service. I use TB apps in everything now.
