How do you record a live performance of Drambo standalone?

I’ve been using AUM for live recording from Drambo AuV3, but I want Drambo standalone to host AuV3s, so this is not an option.

I need to record maximum 10 minutes nonstop, but Drambo’s samplers etc. give me very little recording time.

Have a look at 4pockets' Multitrack recorder

    https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/multitrack-recorder-plugin/id1483833410

Some users have also suggested using Audiolayer as well.

    https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/audiolayer/id1381478666

Insert on the main output and that should work.

I’ve got the 4Pockets multitrack recorder.
    Tried it and it works.
    Thanks.

    No worries.

    New problem:
    The recordings are only 16bit.

In Drambo’s settings I can only find “samplerate”.
There is no setting for “bit”.
It looks like drambo only records 16bit and only exports 32bit.

I need 24bit recording and export.

    Are these recordings using dRambo
itself or the recordings using the 4pockets app?

    4Pockets inside Drambo.

check the settings in the 4pockets app itself
as that is the app that’s doing the recording.

dRambo has no control in regards to
the 4pockets app recording bit rate.
If I remember correctly drambo itself
    is either 24bit or 32bit.
Try contacting the 4pockets dev to
see if bit rate selection could be added
    to the app.

Back to AUM for hosting and recording AuV3s.

  • @jolico - 4Pockets Multitrack Recorder only records in 16bit. It's a limitation of the app.

That’s unfortunate. I was thinking of trying it with NS2.

    Thanks for the warning.

  • Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the thread and this may have been discussed a thousand times.

Opened Drambo for the first time in ages today and tried to open the projects I’d kept in iCloud. There’s no iCloud section now and when I try to import a file it just stops at “icloud is loading”. Has the iCloud option been removed now? Cheers.

    It shouldn’t be.

Have a look in Settings to see if dRambo
    has permission to access iCloud.

    Edit.

    Ignore this.

    Drambo doesn’t have

Ah right. Cheers for looking. I’d find it a pity if it’s been removed.

It’s still on my iPad, that’s good anyway. It’s missing on my iPhone 11. Any ideas anyone?

Edit: After my phone died I charged it and, of course, the iCloud option reappeared. I wonder if it disappeared when my phone was in low power mode. Anyway, sorry for all the waffling.

  • Not sure about basses if you dont program patterns in advance or along with midi ( transpose/chance etc ) to gain variation as you go or if basses even need a lot of tweaking etc.

But is the only way to clear a drambo track as you go. To highlight track via green edit bar then press clear?

If Drambo is in background. You can map clear and have track highlighted but when you switch track. Its no longer in edit mode. So you need a dedicated controller for a bass ( example ) Maybe its just me but would it be cool if the edit bar could stay highlighted for every track and a different clear cc mapping for every track.

Or is there other ways to clear a sequence?

Thanks mate. Didnt really need to buy a launchpad then ( for setup Iv been going on about ) but might still be needed.

I’ve found the launchpad to be a great combo with Drambo, I always make custom layouts for different workflows I have on Drambo and it makes live performances especially easy. I’ll map undo and the pads on the same layout page on my launchpad and it makes midi looping a breeze

I believe you need to enable Drambo in Settings–>Apple ID–>iCloud. When Drambo is enabled there, you see a [Local|iCloud] option in the project file loader. This option does not appear in the Settings for Drambo because Drambo doesn't make it the default location, unlike say Pages. It's just an optional location it can access.

Thanks. Always thought Drambo were a bit weird for clearing sequences. If I make tracks with all standard midi, then I will map to launchpad otherwise maybe nanokey. Not sure.

I'm still able to access iCloud for importIng and exporting from within dRambo though
I don't use it that often to be fair.

Yes, for import and export, it lets you access anything Files can see. But, if you enable iCloud, it becomes an optional location for project Save and Open. I don't use it either, but I was trying to clarify how the option to Open a project saved to iCloud can disappear/reappear.

    Ahhhh...
I haven’t ever used that function.
I simply use ‘Documents from Readdle’
    for importing and exporting.

    Okay, so there are a
couple of ways to do this....
    Cool.

    Thank you.

  • If Drambo made the clear button ( omni as midi ) and you mapped tracks, different midi ch but same cc. Would it clear track sequence of the track being selected?

  • Has someone put together a simple looper patch that starts recording when a MIDI trigger comes in and stops recording and starts playing back the loop when the MIDI trigger comes in a second time -- preferably without requiring the host's timeline to be running? I imagine that it would be pretty simple to put together for someone that knows Drambo's modules (which I don't).

Audio. I can see that it would probably use a Flexi sampler in loop mode. I guess what I need in front of flexi is a combination of modules that implement the logic:

    • on first trigger, start flexi recording
    • on second trigger, stop recording, send note on to start playback
    • a trigger button to triggers sending a note off to stop the flexi playback

Has someone put together a simple looper patch that starts recording when a MIDI trigger comes in and stops recording and starts playing back the loop when the MIDI trigger comes in a second time -- preferably without requiring the host's timeline to be running? I imagine that it would be pretty simple to put together for someone that knows Drambo's modules (which I don't).

    midi or audio looping?

Yeah, the module you'll want to use for that is the Recorder module. If you p-lock the 'play' and 'record' buttons to the first step, and have it receive audio from your input source, it will record for as long as your pattern is, until it comes back around to step 1, where the p-lock will disengage the recording, and activate playback. Perfect audio loops in sync. Only downside is that it doesn't save the audio files... its been requested many times, and is 'supposed' to be coming.

I guess I didn't make clear that I want to set this up so that I don't need to have set a tempo. For this use case, I am setting up a free-running audio loop--so, looking to set up to behave like loopy but with a single loop.

Yeah it occurred to me after I responded that you mentioned without the transport. Oops.
I have some loopers I've done, but none that could set the loop length based on a start and end trigger. I'll look into your idea about using Flexi, if someone else doesn't look into it first.

Mapping a MIDI message to Flexi's REC button in toggle mode will let you start and stop recording like you described but Flexi is designed to play upon receiving a gate signal.

I have a better solution using one of these:

In Control mode "@ + B", the buttons of this wireless Bluetooth controller can be mapped like a BT keyboard in Drambo and I've just had success in building what you want:
Hold the mapped button as long as you want to record, then let go and the loop will play immediately.

    So what exactly happens here?

That little genius BT game controller sends note 57 when pressed and note 55 when released.
I've mapped them appropriately to the SWITCH and REC buttons and there you have it.

  • This is only one possible solution. Of course you could also have a MidiFire script generate the required messages.

Is there a combination of modules that would listen for a particular note on and the first time it comes in, turn flexi recording on. The second time it comes in, turn flexi off and send the gate signal to start flexi playing?
