Firo > Caustic via Virtual Midi (iOS)

You guys — anyone tried connecting Firo (Fiddlewax Pro) to Caustic via Virtual Midi? Doesn't seem to work no matter what I do. Fiddlewax Blue > Caustic = yep, Firo > Sunrizer = perfect, Firo > BM2 > Caustic works fine, even Firo on iPad > Apollo (Bluetooth) > Caustic on iPhone gives us a bold insight into the interconnected wireless future (although we're definitely not there yet). However, Firo > Caustic does not produce any sound. Where should I look? Thanks!

Hey, do you have midibridge or/and midiflow? They can let caustic and firo interact.
And thumbjam (yeah), instr. muted (pref.), midi in firo, midi out caustic, midi THRU mode enabled ;)

  • Nope, don't have them. As I said, I can route midi from Firo to Caustic through BM2; however, I want the direct link between the two, and I don't see any reason for it not to work. The question is, is it just me, or do we have a bug in Firo/Caustic?

  • As I said on the Caustic forum, I can control Caustic directly from several apps but no luck with Firo so I'd say the answer is with the Firo dev.

Possible. Could also be an settings issue, a Caustic issue, or even an OS issue. After all, Fiddlewax Blue from the same dev works fine. Midi monitoring apps show similar data incoming from Firo and Fiddlewax Blue, and Caustic is far from transparent in this aspect.

I hear you! MIDI on iOS can be weird. Firo doesn't seem to have any MIDI settings other than off and on which doesn't help matters. Caustic is actually pretty straightforward. Either MIDI is off, effects only the on-screen instrument or effects instruments 1-14 on the equivalent MIDI channel. Good luck!

It is kind of weird that (seemingly) no one else had tried this combination in the past. FIro is a wonderful jamming/sketching tool, so Firo/Caustic is a match made in heaven. I would definitely like to hear more on the subject. @adamkumpf?
