KORG iKaossilator
Anybody using it? Is it worth 10 bucks, it's on sale now.
Can it be used as an FX too?
Comments
Definitely worth it at that price, got on sale too recently. Just wish Korg would develop it a bit more...and put it in Gadget.
MIDI export would be great. but you can export audio to Ableton live on a scene by scene basis.
You can't use it in the FX slot though.
Thanks @Carnbot, so it's actually a unit on its own...Wish there was a manual...or some more info...
How about MIDI in/out? I know you can import samples, that's great.
No midi in or out unfortunately but you can sync with Wist.
Use it rarely, but always come up with something interesting. Get more use of out it now as a color/fill machine, rather than standalone song maker.
Used to like it a lot when I first got it as one of my first iOS music apps. Don't use it much anymore. I find it too limiting now. Even figure gets a lot more use and it's free.
It is very fun at first though so could still be worth the sale price.
I doubt you'd be really upset with the purchase if you go ahead.
It's too bad they don't add some innovative features to it and ielectribe(half assed flutter pad doesn't do it for me)
Having said all that, I just opened ikaoss up and listened to a few things I made and enjoyed myself. Just buy it.
This. I can come up with some nice little synth fills, transitions, etc with it. However, the Abelton export makes it a nice little beat machine, idea creator on the go. I use it a lot more on my iPhone for that than on my iPad. You can save the settings as clips and jam on it live like Abelton or launchpad which makes it really fun. That's the easiest way to make a full track on it.
Thanks for starting this thread. I actually re-downloaded it after I was reminded that you could export to Ableton. Here's why I think it's a good buy. It's the only app on the Iphone where if you do anything on it, it's easy to later export to Ableton. These days, I don't care so much about uniqueness rather than workflow because ultimately, the uniqueness comes from us. It's the ios workflow that's actually been a creative buzzkill for me the last year since ultimately any serious work has to be finalized on a laptop.
That's how I'm staring to feel these days... but I have an iPad 3 and o tend to push it. I like this because I can walk to work for five minutes and have a good sketch going on my phone. Figure does this too, but you are limited to the three tracks. A lot more sound sculpting in figure though.
It can complement Figure quite nicely as well, just use audio copy/paste to move some Figure loops in to iKaossilator for further layering or arranging in to song. I also like loading loops from DM1 in to it.
@1nsomniak Hmmm. Hadn't thought of the DM1 option......
iKaossilator is one of my favorite apps for on the go iPhone sketching.
i dont use it often in the last time cause, i have it since its born....and used it for days.....
but after you are playing with it more then 80h-100h it wear a little, dont buy the EDM, thought about, did someone bought it? usefull? how many new loops an sounds? is there a list or better preview about?
korg include the Sound/LoopPack Store long time ago, but only EDM to find there.......
did someone know anything new about?....
I wonder what their internal view/policy is with this app? I was fiddling with it last night again and it does some things really well, but the whole file area/editing tools feel and seem somewhat clunky and dated at this point...
I had a bit of fun mucking about with it when I bought it a few years ago, but never used it in a thing. Feels to me more like a music toy than a serious audio beast.
it's a beast of a music toy
It's an audio toy beast thingie.
Crippled compared to its hardware equivalent. The fact that you can't even adjust individual track volumes is criminal. It's fun, but so limited.
it's a criminally fun beast of a music toy thingie I agree
I concur!
It's the top toy best beast.
There, that's my contribution to the wisdom of this forum for September, done.
As regards volume changes per inst. you can alter the levels of user/imported sounds, but not (I think) the stock library. Pity. I think if this was another dev's toy/beast we'd be calling it abandonware mostly, but you have to think that the boys will either posh it up at some point or cull it for use elsewhere....
Not sure why you say it's abandonware, they just added Ableton export right around when the new electribes came out.
Fair point. Maybe not-significantly-updated-as-regards-common-user-functions-ware. I know, not very snappy, lemme have a think about it..
I like locking the scale and tempo, then going into the scene selector page and jamming, you can kill a good few hours like that, lots of fun
I use it as a backup band. Try generating random chords in chordpolypad and running them through neosoul keys or even arpegiattors driving other instruments.
Looks like Korg has plans for iKaossilator:
had or has??
Not sure the significance of the tweet?
ditto
Maybe iKaossilator is due for an update and will include a new 'Gadget' too
So Korg just promote it so people will get it and get some 'free' goodies for Gadget too...
I think Korg keeps track of what Korg apps people already own (it can be seen in the most Korg apps that list all Korg apps and what is installed and not). Only Korg app I do not have are the Gorillas edition of iElectribe and Module for iPhone(it's universal now so no need).
