Why no midi learn
Why all korg apps and Thor don't have midi learn? I have a launchkey mini and I want to map some controls to ims-20 but can't since every midi value of the app is fixed. Is there any work around? Is there any specific reason why some app developers don't provide this basic feature?
Comments
You could use an app like Midiflow or Midibridge to remap the cc values for fixed cc apps.
@Paul - Thanks for pointing me in a working direction. Novation support told me it's impossible lol... Which one would you recommend? Midiflow or bridge?
Midiflow is probably more straight forward plus you can see the midi messages being sent to it from within the app.
Because there is a standard for MIDI controllers some devs follow them. And then some don't.
Midi flow, controller remapping is an IAP but Midi bridge has it covered with the base price.
Looks like that IAP is on sale now, just bought it for $3. I like MidiFlow a lot
Thanks @yug, Midibridge is all hex and stuff like that I don't wanna be bothered lol... I think i'll get midiflow... Like Paul said, it's pretty straight forward.
I like midiflow, too. Very straight forward/understandble.
Problem is, Korg Apps are also promiscuous, which makes it almost impossible to remap effectively with MidiBridge or MidiFlow on the same iThing. Impossible, in the case of Gadget, but that does have MIDI learn. iPolySix and iMS20: your incoming MIDI needs to be on channel 9 or higher to avoid their mapping, then use the MIDI app to remap CC messages and send them back out on ch 1 or 2 as needed.
ELECTRIBE And iMS-20 midi control.
I pasted this from the manual, located in "help", did you try assigning those CCs to your controller? They are hard wired. Under is a complete list of CCs, almost all is assignable. Hope this helps? I am getting my CCK cable hopefully today....
Will try with my Edirol PCR 300...

iELECTRIBE v1.2 adds MIDI control capabilities by using the Apple Core MIDI features found in iOS 4.2, via the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit and external USB-MIDI devices.
ELECTRIBE:
MIDI channel is fixed on 10ch.
Please update your iPad to iOS 4.2 or later.
The Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit is required.
Some USB bus-powered MIDI devices need a USB hub with power supply.
Please set up the MIDI settings on your external USB-MIDI device.
MS 20:
The MS-20 Synth receives MIDI notes and CC# numbers. (MIDI 1ch receive)
The Drum Machine receives MIDI notes for each part. (MIDI 2-7ch receive)
The Mixer receives CC# for each channel. (MIDI 1-7ch receive)
iMS-20 also supports the MS-20 Controller originally bundled with the original KORG Legacy Collection software.
I tried mapping ielectribe to the pads on the launchkey and it worked but I am unable to stop ielectribe from receiving midi from the keyboard directly. @dwarman - no work around? There is no midi OFF switch in any of the Korg apps.
Are you sure it's on sale? How much was it before?
Because there are only 24 hours in the day and one man's priority is another man's might do.
I realllllly hope Korg eventually deals with the promiscuity problem across their entire line. I don't suspect the AB forum holds much weight with their marketing and product teams but we've been complaining about it since day the dawn of iOS music time.
AFAIR, both IAPs were 5 bucks each 1-2 weeks ago. Anyway, 3 or 5 dollars - it's totally worth it. Very useful app. I'm using it more and more these days.
For example, I like using Patterning to drive various other apps but I don't like to reconfigure its midi out note values every time - MidiFlow solves this problem for me
Thanks, that's a great solution, saving patterning midi presets in midiflow, I'll do the same.
I successfully mapped THOR with Launchkey mini. Korg needs to get their midi game up...
This is true.
But for me it's still coming up at £3.99 ($5)
I got Midiflow's Conditions IAP for some experiments with my Loopy Bindings.
It's really powerful and I've only dipped my toe into its midi waters.
I'd recommend it. It's got superb documentation here... http://www.midiflow.com/documentation
Off Topic.
Midi Waters.

+1 at the superbitude of the MIDIFlow docs.
Thanks

Need help: Since the launchkey mini has no pitch bend and modulation, I want to use the 2 velocity sensitive pads to control pitch and mod. How do I do that? I create a condition : Note Velocity ---> CC1 (ModWheel) but Thor is receiving note velocity as well as note value so the modulation kicks in when I hard press a note meaning i hear the note as well as mod at the same time. I don't want that way. I want the pads to send only the pad velocity to the note I play on the keybed. The keyboard sends midi on Channel 1 and the drum pads on channel 10. Hope I am clear...
I 'think' I have to filter out the notes but when I do Channel Restrict to 1, the pads are not supposed to send signals to Thor since they are on channel 10 right? What I understand is create two paths, one for ch 1 and another for ch 10 and filter out notes value (not the velocity) on ch 10... But I am unable to restrict channels, I am doing something wrong.
Funny, I prefer synths that pre-assign their cc's. I guess I'm the other way round. Must be cuz I'm a lefty.
Yes, you can even have different mappings for the same app - just need to leave one MidiFlow routing active and mute others
Yes good tip, instead saving different presets just un-mute the mapping you need. will do that too.
I'm not sure if I understand this correctly. Your velocity sensitive pads send notes, and you want to convert those to modulation and pitch-bend, but the notes itself should not be played? Then you have to create a controller remapping as you said, and you have to filter out notes (activate the "Filter out" switch in the "NOTES" section in the modifier view).
That's right. I will try that and get back. Thanks for the response. But I am unable to restrict channels to 1.
Good tip indeed. Thanks for that @yug.
