Arturia keyboards with iPad
Just bought a 25 key Arturia 'The Player' controller keyboard for playing bass lines and leads etc on IPad Air. Bit disappointed so far on first play. Seems to be an issue with the velocity. I have to hit the keys pretty hard for the notes to register. If I play softly I get nothing! Does anyone use Arturia keyboards and if so, is it possible to sort out the velocity without using the software on PC? Paid £100. Gutted.

If it makes you feel any better, think you need to sort out the velocity on the PC with pretty much any MIDI keyboard controller.
Same thing happened when I bought my Novation Launchkey61. Some loud, some not at all. I called Sweetwater who put their techs on it--no solution. It turned out that a some presets on some iPad apps behave that way, but the vast majority of apps work just fine. Try it with more apps to see if it's the same for you.
@Clam Judging by your icon you don't look like a happy clam.
Sounds like the velocity sensitivity curve, try different ones, on the controller, but make sure the synth and preset make use of dynamic changes via velocity to test, most synths also have velocity curves too so how this effects the sound depends on the synth and preset.
The only solution that works 100% is to use the MIDI setup PC software. You can make a constant velocity preset that you can activate by pressing shift+{1,2,3,4} every time you plug it in. It takes one minute after the software installation.
If for some reason you can't do that, then you'll probably remain frustrated because you'll be at the mercy of each application's settings.
You can use a MIDI filter in something like MIDIBridge to adjust and force the velocities to be higher.
Will the constant velocity preset still work on the IPad after you remove the controller keyboard from the PC software? Have you tried it on an Arturia keyboard and been successful?
Yes it will, sorry for the delay. I use the MiniLab and once you program on PC it saves to the unit.
Edit: I do agree that the default velocity curve is disappointing, given that the only app I use that allows for editing is Module. I shouldn't complain for $99, I suppose, but banging hard on the keys has already caused a couple keys to sink a little bit after only 2 months.
