Urgent for many of us... Should we upgrade to 8.4.1, before Apple cuts us off with iOS 9?

I saw this thread here and it spooked me. Now I fear being stuck.

Should we upgrade today and tomorrow before the iOS 9 release hits?

Comments

  • I would.

    I did.

But how did u see this thread here and then create it? Very mysterious.

  • Does 8.4.1 make much difference to 8.4 ?

  • The last zmors modular update only works with 8.4.1

  • I first upgraded my iPod touch 5 from 7.1.2, then over the weekend, my iPad mini 2 from 7.1.2 to 8.4.1. I haven't noticed any reduction in usability/performance in either....so no regrets so far.

What about it only works with 8.4.1, seems fine with 8.4?

  • Do you have the last update, with the console mixer/piano roll editor ... ?

I had to update to 8.4.1 to have access to it

  • Works for me on 8.4

  • Ok maybe I was 8.3 or something like that, sorry for the misinformation ...

Yep works for me on 8.4

  • Yes, I would recommend iOS 7 holdouts to go ahead and go to 8.4.1 so you can continue your life as ios8 holdouts instead. Devs will definitely keep supporting 8 for a while.

(But rest assured I at least will be supporting my existing apps all the back to iOS5 until apple makes it impossible for me.)

  • Drum and Thumb are two of my most often used apps, so no upgrade for me until I'm sure they work fine

  • I'm trenches at 8.2!
Full ifunbox acess! Apple gonna have to pay me to upgrade:-)

  • On 8.4.1. A bit of weirdness with my uca222, which seems to be resolved. Everything else works just fine.

Thanks, now that's what I call support.

  • No, don't do it. "The only reason why anyone ever asks for advice is because they want someone to talk them out of it. It generally never works."

Same here. 8.2 is smooth. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

  • If I was on 8.2 unless I needed features or app's that needed it, I would stay, having upgraded to 8.4 on my iPad 4, Safari has become a real pain, reloading pages, when on iOS 7 this was a rare thing, I can only hope iOS 9 sorts this out, if not this will make me evaluate the future of my iOS devices.

8.2 is massively broken but only Air 2 users were affected.Had no chances to stay on 8.2 unfortunately :(

home sharing music doesn't work in 8.4.1, if you don't use it definitely update to 8.4.1 now! Or wait 2 month and jump to 9 then, if u r on 7 now.

That's too bad. It works well on the mini 2. I'll probably be on 8.2 for a while...at least until 9 is running smooth. I don't know if I'm willing to give up ifunbox though...

  • The whole Air 2 iOS scroll shambles by Apple, makes me hesitant to upgrade device and iOS, so I'm going to sit tight as long as I can, see if Apple fixes things on iOS 9, if not, stasis.

  • For 7.1.x users. There's a few apps that run 8.x only, but there's also a lot apps that don't have audiobus support under iOS 8.x and probably there will some that won't support iOS 9. I would stay at 7 when you use specific apps with audiobus that are not compatible with 8. The chance that the will update to 9 is very small.

That is a good point, definitely use your best judgment if the apps you rely on are known not to work best beyond ios7.

i upgraded to 8.4 on my old iphone 4s and have regretted not jumping back ever since(i missed the license cutoff). might only apply to the 4s but if you have one of these, I strongly recommend sticking with the ios version before the apple music update.

Thankfully i did this before my ipad, so my ipad was not updated and is very happy with ios 8.3

  • If you still can, it's a good idea.

  • I went from 7-> 8.4.1 yesterday, as it was last call before ios9. Some things in Safari switched from left screen to right, unless I missed a setting. Gotta get used to that. My apps are cool, but I haven't tried them all in Audiobus yet.

Yeah, 8.4 has radically affected my iPhone 4s. Big regret...it takes the phone 8-10 seconds to recognise any action. Successful pin entry for starters.

My iPad 4 will graze out it's days on iOS 7, blissfully unaware of other pastures.

May grab a new device in early 2016 and see how the 9 is working.
