a modest proposal
A simple, dedicated loop cutter that works in the audiobus output slot. It would have two amazing capabilities - the ability to cut to tempo or freeform without clicks and pops, and the option to use crossfade looping of any length. The apps that you can use now to do anything like this either don't work well for this(Audioshare, Hokusai,Twisted Wave, et. al.) or get into a pretty convoluted workflow (BM2, Auria.) This would be so helpful... am I dreaming? Probably, but I have to throw it out there.

Samplr maybe?
Love the Samplr, for playing loops and all kinds of other great goodness - but its not a sound editor as far as trimming/ cross fading a waveform for export.
just curious, what don't you like about Hokusai? I like your idea about being able to slice it based on tempo. Haven't had a chance to play with this feature yet but Hokusai can time stretch and of course Auria has that feature now as well. Both use dirac technology. Unless you use Ableton, what kind of program/app have you used before that can do what u want ?
Ableton has a lot of great functionality for playing loop clips smoothly, but I don't normally think of it as a waveform/loop editor, although you can manage it, as with Auria. The best thing I've found so far on iOS is the wave editor in BM2 - you can select a region and use Process to crossfade the loop and then trim it. The main problem is nothing snaps to anything inside the waveform editor so you're just eyeballing the length. Then you have to fiddle with the BM2 export process. I've used Hokusai, after the dev added a "soften loop" feature, but experienced a lot of bugginess and weird bumps in the crossfade so had to abandon it. I'm not so interested in time stretching although that would be a bonus.
i guess for me, i got used to being really lazy in ableton, just dumping the whole loop in, NEVER trimming actual sample but just shortening the wave file in the (gosh cant remember the name) recording screen. then just copy and paste it. Even though you can now do that in auria, it doesnt feel as easy or maybe cuz im using an ipad mini, its not as fast as id like it to be. I'll keep an eye out for apps that do what we need as I also work with a lot of loops so anything that can help make editing loops easier will def help me out as well.
@smeeeth - forgot to ask, what didn't you like about audioshare? You can click the snap box and set BPM. Is it the lack of zoom that you don't like?
The clicks I get on almost every loop trim. Also no crossfade capability. I asked the dev about it but he wasn't interested in implementing it.
ahhh I see. I don't own it but I think the new mastering app (see the other thread) has trimming capabilities. Don't know how good it is but it seems like its got a lot of other nice features
@smeeeth: I don't know where you got that from, I am interested in adding crossfade and de-clicking, it's right there on my big TODO list. However, I can't earn a living only on my own apps, so I need to do a lot of work for other clients - meaning I have less time and budget making free updates of my own apps. So I can't say when it will come, but someday.
@j - now that is a crime! While I can be a tough critic on apps that dont work, your app is great and is one of my most used apps (maybe not for precise trimming, but for many other tasks) so I'm saddened to hear you're not rakin in enough cash from audioshare. I'll make sure to give you a shout out on any music forum where audioshare can help.
I hope you do find time to work on the editing features of Audioshare sometime because most of my audio ends up being stored in it and the import/export and recording capabilities are great, so it would be ideal. Who said anything about a free update, I'd be happy with an IAP or buying a totally new app. Thats why I brought it up to the community. But like you said its probably not very lucrative thats why I don't expect anyone to do this anytime soon.
I'm not very fond of IAP's, but maybe that would be a way to go.. An IAP for more editing/processing features. I'll give it some more thought!
Ok, this thread has just made me realise I haven't rated audioshare yet. I'm going to do it right now. Brilliant app, I use it all the time.
@j_liljedahl ,I can see that you dont like IAP's ,who does, but we cant have you go hungry, and there is no such thing as a bottomless Latte,I myself would happily pay for these editing functions.
Thanks
I will certainly give it some more thought. However, I don't think I'll go all the way to make it a fully featured editor, since there are other apps that does that very well.
I'd pay for zoom and cross fade, for sure.
I bought Audioshare the day it came out in July of last year. Since then, it has had 11 major updates, with excellent added features each time, and has become so integral within my music workflow it holds a permanent place on my iPads main dock.
The developer is super helpful and responsive to all queries, problems and suggestions.
I got all this for £1.49...
....Hell yes I'll pay for an IAP!
Same here! Would happily pay for zoom! Also just gave ya a 5 star rating.
