Bought DIFFERENT DRUMMER by accident.......................

Intended to buy DRUM PERFECT. Unfortunately, was distracted doing 4 different things and ended up buying DIFF DRUMMER instead.

Sadly, I didn't realize it till this am when I went to use Drum Perfect which I thought I bought last night........................LOSER

Nope, DIFFERENT DRUMMER.

Is it worth getting into?

What purpose does this app have as opposed to traditional drum sequence apps?

I am not a big "randomizer" feature person with apps and I get the impression this is what this is about. Is control limited?

What is your opinion on this app?

Russell Funjunkie is the man for Different Drummer information. He posted some tutorial videos recently on this forum. I've used it briefly, and there is A LOT of stuff going on. It is a unique control system for drums, but the waves can be sent to other synths as midi, which opens up massive other possibilities

It appears that the potential for some use is there. I am just wondering what others have done or think.

I will look into this Russel's stuff.

  • Thanks @gsm909.

@RustiK - many people dislike the learning curve, and it does take some time to wrap your head around all that is going on with it.

Some of the reason I like it:

The dev is very responsive and has updated this more than any other app I own.

Midi implementation is pretty solid and includes clock in/out. It also can be used to drive a midi target while DD's audio source is used. In other words, you can use audio, midi, or both.

Control is easier for me when using grid mode. Understanding how notes, rests, and ties work together is the key to controlling it.

Thanks for taking your time to reply with such detail.

  • No worries....let me know if you have any questions.

  • It's one of those apps I just know has so much to offer, yet my brain won't seem to let me penetrate it....damn

  • Just play around with the settings. I found when I first got it that it was surprisingly easy to create something neat, and that motivated me to explore further.

It is a really cool app. Shame it has never had the success it deserves.

  • Enabling grid mode is the secret to get 4 on the floor rhythms. Non-grid mode is better suited for experimental stuff....imho. Start with one track only in grid mode and play with notes, rests, and ties to see how they interact. From there, try changing the wave types for each to see how they differ. After that, go crazy!

    The master has spoken.

  • lol...I still feel like a pup, given what can be done!

  • I tried very hard to love it, but bugs and a 1987 Amiga UI turned everything to stew. Before deleting I did this though, 90% DD played live through some FX:

  • I like it @monzo. Agreed on the UI. The dev is quite responsive to any bugs or enhancement requests.

Thanks, yeah it's not a bad app at all, just a bit too odd for my current workflow at the mo. I'll keep an eye on it for updates though.

@RustiK - Haven't read every comment, and don't know if you know it, but when you receive the invoice you can undo your buy. I think it was via 'report a problem'. I did this some time ago. This was not difficult. Then you receive your money back.

Got to agree, it is a really cool app.

  • So very complicated. Reading the manual makes you think in different ways about rhythm creating. Its an inspirational app but Im still way off understandig what Im doing. After each update I give it an hour or two. It gets regular updates so I dont forget it but use oscilab for sending midi in waves. It used o cost like $100 so its a bargain

Make that $300! At least you didn't make the mistake of buying at the wrong time ;) It does seem like a very capable app, especially when you want to think out of the box.
