So there you go. Thanks Trueyorky!
@Trueyorky pssst, possible that access is denied because he doesn't want the world seeing that yet? Other forum topics are open to the public.
@syrupcore
The dev said its OK to discuss the beta outside of the Single Cell site and also release songs created with the beta. He has referred to this "alpha" as an early beta. Besides Rej is a pretty cool guy and his app just keeps getting better so why hide it?
Being a bit considerate now aren't you?
Consideration...going the same way as the Dodos. Nice to see it alive.
wish the sequencer would be redone. drawing a note, then adjusting the length with a separate button, then another to move or select notes is so slow when you are used to other sequencers.
@syrupcore agreed, it's important to respect the devs confidentiality but as already commented he did say it is OK to discuss this
Always interesting to read stuff like this. I like it this way: virtually zero frustrating false touches.
The 'SawSynth' sounds interesting, if it allows inversion of one of the saw-waves it could be used for pwm-sounds too
Knowing how well thought-out most of the things in Caustic already are I have confidence that it will be something special...
Can Caustic do MIDI out or IAA out?
@gburks
MIDI in only at present. Works as a generator in IAA and in Input and Output slots in AB.
Also, this looks interesting. It's part of the new update. You can layer up to 14 instruments and export the whole mess to a PCMSynth preset or a zip of wav files:
Beta in the next few days I promise but this is how the "merge rack to instrument" will work:
You build up your rack by placing all the synths you want for your layered sound, configure presets, effects, EQ, etc. Then you go to this screen which is the setup for the instrument merge:

Playing a note on the preview keyboard here will send that note event to all machines in your rack automatically. You then can adjust levels for each machine while you listen. Now one cool part of this (I think) is that you can also use the Beatbox and instead of having it follow the note - which would be pointless as its range is only C3-G3 or something - it can be set up to trigger the same sample for any note played. That way you can add a bit of snare snap or kick drum punch to your notes, sounds really cool. You can also use this "locked note" feature to have one synth just play a drone note to accompany the other synths ... possibilites...
Then, you press export and get this:
http://i.imgur.com/oqwSYKR.png
So you choose how the system will simulate someone playing the note (hold time, velocity) you say how much time you want to allow for decay and then specify how often you want it to sample (every note, every two notes, octave, etc). You press export and it goes through playing your synths and recording the output. It then creates a PCMSynth file (or ZIP'ed WAVs) of your samples and automatically assigns the correct root, low high notes. What you get out is something ready to be loaded into PCMSynth and get exactly the same sound as you'd get from having tons of CPU-hungry machines.
Of course, it's not perfect, you don't get continuity on LFOs, you don't get loop points and you can't automate the internal synths that were used to generate the sound but if consider it like a sample you got from a content pack rather than remembering that you once had control over all of its parts, it's pretty handy.
anyway, coming soon.
Pretty sweet.
Hey guys. To see the page you need to be signed in on my forums. Because it's still early days, I prefer limiting its visibility to those who are registered. (anyone can register though)
But yeah, I still have to set up the iOS stuff, update my AudioBus SDK before and get familiar with the new testflight (last I used it, they hadn't been bought yet). I'll definitely be looking for iOS testers in a few weeks.
this is the bit where I whine about being a part-time dev and things always taking longer than I'd like and ask for your patience. you know the drill...
Peace.
Thanks for the info, Rej.
Rej, any plans on allowing the preset selector screen remain open to facilitate the selection of different presets in a Live on stage situation?
Love Caustic but this has limited my use of it specially for a live setting. As a song making tool, it is massive!
Looking forward to great things!
Caustic 3.2 is gonna be SICK! It looks like Gadget will be getting some stiff competition on my iPad.
I'm revisiting this app as an alternative to Gadget for live midi looping, because the upcoming midi controllable transport has me excited. I'm trying to figure out how to sync it with Loopy but it doesn't seem to be able to do this. It looks like it will start/stop with Cubasis if I manually set it to the same tempo. Any upcoming updates to address sync?
That "auto sample to PCMsynth" is ill! You should actually just go ahead and call it the Illmatic.
@Caustic_Rej Can't wait! I already adore Caustic so this is very, very exciting news.
You are doing the Good Work sire - keep on!!
@Caustic_Rej I'd love to see some additional waves in the 'sub synth' maybe both ramp up and ramp down as this would make it possible to do some pwm-type sounds by slightly detuning one of the voices if voice one uses ramp-down and voice two uses ramp-up. Also an option to invert the custom wave would come in handy.
@Caustic_Rej I've been to the forums several times, so I know that this has already been discussed, but I would sure love to have the individual instruments have effects built in so that presets can be saved with the effects. You can have the effects completely bypass-able if you want (to save CPU), but I would really love to feel like I have complete instrument presets, rather than partial presets. :-) Thanks for listening!!
An idea for sometime-in-the-future. It would amazing if there was some additional intelligence behind the "sample to PCM" workflow that 1) optionally automagically removed the sampled instruments from the rack and saved a hidden project with those instruments in that state and 2) allowed you to load an instrument in the PCM synth and hit an 'edit' button which opened that project in an almost modal fashion so that you could indeed edit the source sound entirely, resample and continue on your way.
Sidebar: if IAA/AB instruments ever lands in the rack (which implies the requisite MIDI OUT to trigger them, natch)... holy fucking shit.
How is the sound quality with this, i heard the mixer was a little muddy?
I listened to some hat and cymbal samples from the Beatbox in Caustic and also played the same samples back with Quicktime Pro (both on my Mac) through some decent speakers and I hear no difference.
So nice seeing Caustic and Gadget doing big things on IOS but I'm also excited for BeatMaker and what they have been working on. They have been relatively quite for sometime now so I know they're working on something big.
As for this caustic update, seems awesome! Can't wait for it!
