Apps with mute function- Question.

Hi- I have recently abandoned an sold almost all of my hardware (my Korg Kaoss Pad 3 +) is all that remains. I am absolutely happy with this decision and will probably never go back.
I am looking for some advice on which sequencer type app to get:- I want to mainly sequence phrase samples (as opposed to hits) by playing pads on an iPad sequencer which have been imported via Audiocopy or Audioshare- before sending them through Audiobus to mangle them further.

The problem I have is that I am unsure as to which sequencers will let my phrase samples run to the end of the sample when I press the mute function (which is what I want- as they are all 4-8 beats long) -as opposed to which ones will mute the part straight away thereby chopping a bit off of my sample in live play. The manuals- if there is one never seem to be very clear on this aspect.

I have tried Launchpad which is fine at this- but there just isn't enough slots to use in total. I have also tried IMPC Pro- which seems to be OK- but alas no Audiobus. I like the look of Beatmaker 2- would this fit the bill? (again it's not clear in the manual).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm not sure this exists yet on iOS. Beatmaker will not wait until the end of the loop to mute the pad.

  • You could use AudioShare to host IMPCpro (if that works for you) and then use up to 3 IAA apps to mangle? I was going to suggest putting AudioShare into the input of Audiobus but that doesn't seem to send audio through Audiobus anymore... I'm sure it used to.

  • LP-5?

It will only switch off the loop at the end of a set number of bars (although I think that's universal rather than per pad).

    It has 16x5 slots.

Beatmaker or NanoStudio might well let you fire off 'one shots' though (they can be very long one shots). Is that what you want?

  • OK thanks folks- having thought about it all and experimented I am going to use Launchpad in conjunction with a Korg KP3+. The KP3 can sample and play using the four sample slots with effects, resampling and all the rest of it- in the meantime the input from Launchpad will be muted- and I will sneakily be loading another song ready to introduce as the KP3 drops out again. I do think that Launchpad is a wonderful app and this seems like an ideal workaround for the relatively few slots. (How good it would be if they were to expand it). Incidentally just in case you happen not to be aware- the camera connection along with the Behringer UCA222 is a great (and inexpensive) way of getting high quality audio out of the ipad- as opposed to using the headphone socket.

What are other people using for playing live with for launching clips (just like ableton) but using the ipad only? Or is everybody using Launchpad? I would really like to hear how you go about it.
    Cheers
