can AudioBus rout system sounds to my bluetooth headset or a separate audio output? How?

Hi folks,
I purchased AudioBus hoping that I could use it to rout my system sounds out of one output, and my music out another.

someone suggested to me that it might be possible to rout system sounds to a bluetooth headset. But, my BT headset doesn't appear in AB as an output option.
It's just a monoral earpiece, like the kind you use just to take calls, not a nice stereo set.

Anyway, if anyone has an idea for routing system audio separately from music app audio, please let me know.

The reason that I am interested in doing this is that I use VoiceOver, since I cannot see the screen. So, I'd like to have the voice speak to me only, and have the music speak to my audience. :)

thanks!
Rusty

  • Hi Rusty,

    as far as I know, there's no way of doing this on ios. Maybe somebody else proves me wrong?... Good luck and cheers, t

  • AudioBus seems disabled for Bluetooth, this is sad, its not really playable for Perc.Sounds&Leads YES (but funny), for no time relevant soundscapes and backings it would be cool to do this.
    From time to time i do Ambient/Chillout installations and its easy and effectiv to spread little Bluetooth Amps with Ambient/Nature Sounds in the audience, or eye and ear catching if you do swirlings (POI) with the Amps IN the Audience,
    but sadly only directAPP without AB, it would be nice to send these Sounds through GliderVerb/Cristaline......
    the latency is not relevant, please lovely AB-Team just open the BT-CHannel for AudioBus.
    If people want it and they could life with the (latency) restriction.....

    @sebastian & @michael
    why not?

    @rustyperez what happens if you go to settings accessibility hearing ear piece Bluetooth? I have no bt headset, can't try.
    if you change the thread title to something like VoiceOver Bluetooth only? you may get more helpful answers, the title is misleading...
    Do you have apple care, maybe call support? I guess they know a thing or two about special needs, I'd like to know too.

  • It's a limitation of iOS. Bluetooth audio has (comparatively) high latency. Apple doesn't let apps record live audio and monitor it to a bluetooth speaker. It'd be a shitty user experience.

    He doesn't want real real time audio, he just wants the voice from voiceover "button alt text" on the headphones and the audio from audiobus as usual through system out, the info he wants over Bluetooth may have delay, doesn't matter, as long as it's not on the system out, all he needs to know is that button is here, not when it was pressed, Bluetooth audio would be for "orientation only" ...

    if you route from IN over AB FX, without a record App in the Output, Just SystemOut, its not possible?
    Apple prohibits this? just cause the Code of AB could do recs.....?.....even if i dont....?

  • What was the point of Apple giving Bluetooth v4.0 then. You can play music to a Bluetooth speaker when playing MP3. That's with iPhone also. So I cannot understand the restriction by Apple. I use a Bluetooth dongle from my TV(headphone socket) to my Bluetooth Headphone, when watching a movie, so I do not disturb the family. It's a shame Sebastian is restricted by this. I know if he could do it, he would.

  • Hi @lala
    My BT earpiece is not recognized in the BT hearing aid section of accessibility.

    @Sebastian Is there any other way to have two separate audio streams coming out of an iPhone, one for app audio and another for VoiceOver and system sounds such as message alerts? Does NOT have to be Bluetooth. ANYTHING? ANYWAY?

  • The buffer in Audiobus gets all messed up when using BT output, when used to monitor apps single no Audiobus, this can be hit and miss, some work, others have no output and some have strange timing artefacts.

  • Food for thought;
    @RustyPerez we can ask Patrick @SecretBaseDesign to see if his Apollo series can accomplish what you are looking for. Sound Recorder and Sound Injector can stream audio via wifi. I know he's a busy man but if the speech recognition isn't already in his apps I'd imagine that it's a simple addition.

  • Thanks @TGiG Basically, here's the deal. I can't see, so I use Apple's VoiceOver screen reader built in to IOS to know what's going on on the screen.
    I just want to listen to this spoken audio stream in a different output than the music/instrument/synth/drums audio.
    there's gotta be a way because DJ's use ipads and they have to have queue or monitor audio apart from the program audio.
    and, if audio can be routed around out of one app in to another app, then it sure seems possible.
    It does not have to be wireless. But, if, for example, I could use a usb audio interface, and then run the system audio through the headphone out and the music audio through the usb, then that'd be good. Anyway, any ideas are welcome! :)
    Thanks!
