Bias - Distortion
So........ I fired up Bias FX a bit ago, and checked out the cloud for any new Presets I might need/want to download. (And to see how many users have downloaded my totally awesome presets as well.)
Then I saw it. Bias - Distortion? Sign up to be a Beta Tester. So I did.
I had thought the next Positive Grid Product was going to be a drum type machine. They had some quick bits on Facebook about it a while back. Just two hours ago on FB, they put a news clip on about Bias Distortion. Design your own Distoriton pedals. 16 people think this will be a pretty cool thing. Will it?
I'm not sure. I have Bias Amps, and it time consuming to build your own amps. I've done it a handful of times, but have found others have built some really great amps, and I just download those now instead.
Build my own distortion Pedal. hmmm........
Comments
I'm beginning to get a bit worried about PG. They seem to be expanding a lot, getting into hardware (pedal board and amp), all sorts of new apps, Rockband 4, new announcements almost every other week...really seem to be going corporate too fast...
meanwhile, Bias FX is waiting for an update that would make it work in AB in iOS 9 without a work-around...
Ya, I get that. I worry about that as well
Thanks for posting, I had not seen this. I'm a big pedal nerd, so yeah, the concept appeals to me. But I share the concerns about the volume of stuff PG is putting out - much of it overlapping, much of it really in need of additional development. It feels almost like the way I would've run a company if you handed me the reins at age 13 - a new idea every day, stuff broken all over the place. Tons of energy for new ideas, rather than a focused approach on what they can reasonably sustain.
Is there any update on what the BIAS AMP actually is? They rolled out a full teaser and then showed the full device, but still didn't give any details or a price.
Also some very good points!
The overlap is what I think bothers me the most, and I am a Positive Grid fanboy, I would say. I love their apps. Well, except for Final Touch, I can't seem to make good use out of it yet.
This interests me a fair bit. I won't reiterate my concerns over their business / marketing model again though
I was a big proponent for JamUp Pro when it first came out and then they abandoned JamUp users with Bias. I'm not supporting them anymore. Their business model lacks focus. If they split into different directions they won't be in it for the long haul from a users standpoint. IMO
I haven't used one of their apps in a while. The retro/grid business model doesn't work for me. As I think about it more, I really only use a few apps, it's slowed me from buying everything I see. I won't get another synth until I can remember every synth in gadget off the top of my head and instantly know what they can do, and I'm out of iOS amp modeling for now, too many issues with noisy interfaces, etc.
I have never checked out bias fx and the distortion probably won't interest me. Not that others should avoid. I have noticed though that in PG's newer products bassists seem to be ignored, I did love the bass packs in jamup.
I'm willing to give them some slack - BIAS FX is a big step up from Jamup, so I don't begrudge having to buy a new app for such a major upgrade. The problem is with the App Store model where there isn't a sensible way for devs to charge for upgrades, which after all require a significant amount of time and resource to create.
I suppose it was inevitable, but Jam-up has been acting up a lot on me recently in Audiobus ... some tracks had to be re-recorded due to volume fluctuations + lots of buzz and annoying noise in the signal, if not the actual recording - possible it's Auria but I've been using the two together now for over a year and this has only started happening recently ... since BIAS FX rode into town.
I have no doubt that BIAS FX is a fine and dandy upgrade from Jam-up, but I'd really like to finish getting my money's worth out of the original while I'm still on 8.2 ...
Now this:
Bias Head. It looks like it's integrated into Bias Amps somehow. When will it end? I only use Bias Amp to download custom amps, I've created a few, but it's much easier to just download someone elses and make a few tweaks. Not sure I would use this, but I like having the latest and greatest for guitar, since it's my weapon of choice. But some of the comments sounded like this would be pretty expensive.
BIAS Head - NEXT LEVEL AMP TONE
Official website: http://www.positivegrid.com/bias-head
BIAS Head represents an entirely new concept in guitar sound. Its engine has the most authentic tube modeling. Seamlessly integrated with desktop and mobile apps, BIAS Head makes it possible for guitar players to edit more deeply to create the tones that before they could only have imagined. Amp Match Technology allows guitarists to capture their golden tube amplifier, then share that amp and download other amp models on ToneCloud.
Demo videos and pricing information are coming soon.
