MTS has Audio Units

Comments

  • Great news. MTS just keeps getting better.I won't be updating to 9 any time soon with all the issues people are having however.

  • I downloaded MTS after reading the review yesterday and it's the best IOS Daw I've used.

I have IMPC, Auria, Cubasis BeakMaker 2 Garageband, Gadget, FL Studio. The flexibility and options available are amazing, effect quality is on point, stability is there with a simple UI. The AU addition is a massive

l couldn't believe I missed this one as I think this is going to be my new IOS DAW of choice. Going to have some more fun with it tonight and see what I come up with :D

  • This is seriously big deal. For those that didn't read the linked post the big bad take away: It is now possible to load more than one instance of the same effect.

@j_liljedahl, @HoldernessMedia can we dare to dream?

  • Surely the AUFX range are prime candidates to be AU FX? It's like he was waiting for this day!

  • Am I right that MTS doesn't have a conventional "clips" style layout, so how easy is it to copy and rearrange parts of a composition? And what does the Pro Upgrade bring - it isn't clear from the App description?

It's better suited to a linear approach to composition but there is a Song View so you can swap in and out bars easily. It's easy to copy and paste audio to other tracks so rearranging can be done. It's just the overall visual element is lacking.
    The Pro Extension:

The Pro Extension (available as in-app purchase) adds these features:
    Up to 32 tracks.
Either an extra Effect Return or up to 8 Groups.
    Multichannel audio playback.
Mixer and effect automation. (see manual)
Audio pitch shifting in track editors.
    Time stretching in track editors.
Tempo editor can process audio tracks.
Create new song using current as template.
    Convolutor effect with Vintage Reverbs.
    Dynamics effect, supports sidechaining.
    Multiband Compressor effect.
    Phase Inverter effect.
    Transposer effect.
    Vocal Tuner effect.
Audio pitch shifting in track editors.
    Effect and instrument user presets.

  • I am tempted by MTS, but I think I will see what Rim does with Auria Pro. I know it's in Beta Testing now. So hopefully, it will be released soon? Also, I would think the Cubasis team will be working on AU units too. But as for AU units, I had an email from Native Instruments saying as to not update the latest OS X, as AU does not work. I think Apple have yet once again Fooked up. Not only with IOS, also OSX. I'm don't here any of this crap with Windows, or Surface Pro 3. It will be interesting in seeing how thing evolve for the better.

That´s true... but then it´s not that developers can´t use the beta months before release. But i will for sure stay on Yosemite for a while. But in general i get tired of yearly updates. Totally useless. Only secure fixes needed regulary.

Operating systems are complicated and users always find ingenious new ways of breaking them.

For the record here's one of many lists of "Windows crap" available on the inter web

    http://www.techtimes.com/articles/74022/20150805/windows-10-bugs-problems-and-fixes-activation-wi-fi-connectivity-chrome-browser-audio-issues-and-more.htm

  • I understand what you are saying. Yes, operating systems are complicated. Yes, there are bugs in most, if not all software. But, I do not get emails from music software companies advising me not to update the operating system for windows. Maybe people like to see Apple kicked in the groin, because it's mostly window user(like myself) that do the gossip. But I would love to join the Mac community. But when you see Tim Cook raving on about IOS 9/iPad Pro, how it the next step for Apple greatness, they release it half cocked up. Had my finger burnt from IOS 7 to IOS 8. Now it like "Ground Hog Day" all over again(like all of us). Everybody knows that Windows is not perfect, but, it's certainly more reliable than Apples system. That's why a lot of people are looking towards Windows Surface Pro 4 instead now, & I think they made a wrong turn for the iPad Pro...... It's an update of an iPad Air 2, with a bigger screen. Nothing else. How can Apple sing great things about there "AU" when it's not even working on a Mac properly, let alone for our iPads. It's just my view tho, & I will say again, I really do hope that all these cockup get sorted sooner than later.

  • From Dischord.......
This week has brought some interesting SNAFU's to us. I'll chronicle them all here instead of posting multiple articles.

    iOS 9.0.2
There have been a number of reports on the iPad Musician Facebook group of iOS 9.0.2 doing an automatic pre-install download that is gobbling up loads of storage. I'm not seeing it on my devices, but Derek Jones was having a lot of weirdness on his. It seemed to be taking up more space on his device than it was actually reporting. If you do not plan on updating to iOS 9.0.2 any time soon, you can easily delete the downloaded data:

Urban legend says this will only work if your iOS device has 60% or more battery power, otherwise the Usage thing won't correctly poll your Storage data.

Step 1: Go to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage.

Step 2: Select “iOS 9.x.x.” It is probably towards the top of your list due to the size.

Step 3: Tap Delete Update, and tap Delete Update again to confirm.

Even if you are planning on updating to iOS 9.0.2 I strongly advise you to do it with a tethered install using iTunes, because there are occasionally issues with Over-the-Air(OTA) updates.

    iOS 9.0.2 and OSX 10.11
If you have already made the jump to iOS 9.0.2. and use a Mac running 10.11 (El Capitan) with iConnectivity you may be sincerely fucked. A confusing chart from iConnectivity shows how you will get audio clicks and pops if you use this combination in any way. They did a fine job of obfuscating that in a chart so let me just copy-paste the important parts here:

"We have noticed that when the Mac computer is NOT the clock master for audio, there is observable click and pops in outgoing audio for the Mac when using Music creation software..."

"We have noticed that when the iOS device is NOT the clock master for audio, there is observable click and pops in outgoing audio for the iOS device when using Music creation software..."

If you are an iConnectivity user you will probably want to try to decipher the whole warning post. Hopefully most people have listened to the advice of every music software company so far, and avoided El Capitan on production machines. Avid is even advising their customers not to buy a new Mac at all.

    Patreon Hacked
I want to apologize to everyone who has been supporting me on Patreon because we all just got hacked. The good news is that, despite being hacked, they were handling their security correctly. Passwords were all 1-way hashed, and salted, so they are theoretically unencryptable. If you do use that Patreon password anywhere else it might be a good idea to change it in those other locations just to be safe. Your credit card data is safe, because they do not keep credit card data on their serves. All of this is the way it is supposed to be done, so that when these sorts of things happen you don't have bedlam. So please do not abandon Patreon, it sucks that they got hacked but they were at least doing most of this right.

Unfortunately some billing addresses have been leaked. For me this is even worse than credit card data, because it is much easier to change credit cards. Over the last 4 years of doing videos and this website; there have been 2 stalking threats, and 1 insane threat. Actually there were a lot of weird threats at the start of this site. They've all calmed down these days, and it's been over a year since the last stalker. This address leak thing makes me more than a little nervous about that having a sudden uptick. I'd like to draw all of your attention to two facts:

Both my husband and I are proficient marksman. As Americans you can reasonably assume our collection of firearms rivals that of most European police stations.
I had to invest in a full security system, with cameras and off-site backups, after the last threat.
I'm more than happy to talk to everyone on email and social media, but I will be very sad if someone shows up at my door.

............. Now does this sound like the next best thing from Apple?...... Come on Mr Cook, you need to sort out your people.

  • I read through this - it was written just after release. And to me it reads like an inexperienced windows user (or hater) waving their hands in the air saying ohhh it's screwed, without having spent 2 minutes to search for what the issue actually is.
This is a better description of the issue as well as how to fix.
    http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/audio-issues-silencing-your-windows-10-experience-heres-the-fix/
Every issue mentioned has to do with hardware. Apple is a hardware company with their own OS. Microsoft is an OS company that runs on Intel and AMD hardware. Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, asus, a roc, and dozens more build hardware that the Intel and AMD processors live in.
The audio issues are with yet other companies that build OEM hardware to mount into mobos for mass produced machines. These are driver issues from the sound card companies and not from Microsoft. (And most of the gripes have to do with hdmi audio off laptops.). And it's very likely those reporting problems are running older, and lower end, hardware designed to be compatible with XP, Vista or 7. And as mentioned in the article I linked to, using Microsoft's generic driver is the fall back make it work solution.

  • @pichi Many thanks for the comprehensive reply - sounds tempting!
