Really great stuff! The atmospheric, soundscape stuff is obviously right up my alley. I think you have found a workflow sweet spot. Keep up the good work. Passage was excellent last month btw.
Like it, very early warpesque, different to ur other things..liking the change of mood!
iOS hippie music? Right on!!! Not my cup of tea but nicely done and enjoyed !
Found this oldie, 2011 to be exact and nanostudio was used exclusiv
Before gadget, I used nano
Very bass heavy and I posted unmastered version coz I found a forgotten about Dropbox folder with some stuff in it..
Tear it to pieces lol, whatever u like..
@Touchconspiracy firstly thanks mate.
So I'm 2.50 into your track and I have to say that I'm really enjoying it.I love the crazy beat stuff u have going on in the middle and the whooshing noises...I'm bobbing my head...yep,I don't know why exactly maybe it's a tempo thing but this is my favourite of the tracks you've posted:) forgive me if this is retarded but does this count as techno? If not,what is it? Anyway get this mastered mate,I like it a lot.
Thanks mate..re, genre? Kind of dub but not dubstep, maybe electro step ???
It was mastered tho and played on radio and in some clubs by DJ mates but that file - vanished!!! I'm hopeless and disorganised, so it goes without saying that the nsp is non existent too lol
@Touchconspiracy If I was a bobber I'd bob to this.
@Touchconspiracy
That needs to be mastered, not because it doesn't sound good. I love it. It's got a really cool laid back beat, with a nice synth lead through it. The whole beat section reminds me of 80's beat boxing. Well, maybe except for the cymbal hit. Round 2:30, I really like how the additional synth comes in to join the other.
Good stuff.
@Touchconspiracy Bonus, checking back on your old material & finding a cool, infectious tune like this one. The early riff until 1.04 particularly good. The middle section with the speedy drum rolls adds a lighter touch before coming back in with that lovely Bass underlay & other synth work. Agree with all above to get it mastered but it sounds great in its raw state & how you've presented it now. Groovy stuff that as @JohnnyGoodyear says makes you wanna bob, bop, pob & pop along to.
My first song... Gulp! Its a wee punk number. There is swearing involved. Notes, chords, guitars are alien to me, which is a problem when I want to play guitar based stuff. I just whacked a few of the kindly provided notes into each box of guitarism & Pretended I was an axemeister. Kudos to all you guitar / Keyboard players. Seriously! 3 notes & 3 Strings for me. As " The Damned " Stated on their first album cover! " Made to be played loud at Low volume. "
@Bluepunk hahaha!!! BRILLIANT!! This song has made my week!
Dude,you always sound so polite!! This surprised the hell out of me! (In a good way)
The songs awesome,you're singing is great although I would suggest upping the volume a bit as its a little quiet to my ears.The musics great! What drums did you use? The lyrics are fantastic and really made me laugh!
Fantastic first effort Bluepunk! I can't wait to hear more:D
@Bluepunk great first effort!
Couple of points: vocals need to come up, can't really hear the words. I would also bring the bass down, to give the guitars and drums more prominence (it's all about the guitars right?).
Love the drums, not sure what you used but they really add life and dynamics to the track. Also can't believe you did this in Guitarism, it sounds totally convincing to me.
Great stuff, love it - reminded me of Daevid Allen's New York Gong stuff. I'd echo the two comments above though and think the vocals should be higher in the mix. Good work though
@Bluepunk,
Grand stuff ! Reminds me a bit (in terms of sentiment) to 'Fizzy' by the Sleaford Mods. I won't link to it as it's decidedly NSFW !
@Bluepunk Just the word poxy makes me miss Hounslow...
Funny and angry and fed up and bitter and knowing; we have had an opening at SOTMC for a punk crusader and I think you just kicked the door down and claimed the title for your own
Of course it's totally OK to do a punk song that's only 1.32 and nobody gives you any shit about the length. Should have considered this long ago
Beyond my breathless happiness, and getting down to business: a) yes, the vocal needs to be up higher b) I'm presuming the little hi-hat/cymbal thingie at the end was purely a piece of post-modern irony c) much as I love the voice (and I do) it's slight lack of, I dunno, believable violence, put me in mind of Jilted John's part of the Venn Diagram, which is absolutely fine if that's where you want to be headed; I think we are mostly Graham Fellows apostles here.
Actually, now I'm caused to think about it, for all the punk/whatever that first began to creep onto TOTP back then the only tune that really freaked me out was 'Jilted John/Gordon is a moron'. Truly subversive. Almost all of the other stuff I loved in large part (I understand now) because it caused parents/adults etc to be dismissive/disgusted etc., but I couldn't get my by-then-Twickenham-head around this bloke and his girlfriend Julie and the chip shop and all.
Sorry, off track. But that's me, not you, your track is just fine. Pleased you dove in; set yourself a standard
@LostBoy85 @richardyot @monzo @Igneous1 I'm not being lazy but as most of the comments echo each other's, thought I'd reply to all collectively. Wow, wow wow. Thank you so very much for your kind comments & advice. I wasn't expecting anything positive at all but you have made my day. Coming from excellent song writers/musicians/singers like yourselves it has filled me with the confidence to carry on doing this. Thank you.
The drums are Allen Morgan's Ozzie Kit. Crash cymbals AM Alive kit, both from Cubasis. I used the Pads to drum live then edited to tighten the beats. The tubs are the only instrument I have any knowledge/experience of & I really enjoyed playing them.
I wanted to have a chunkier (Pistols type) guitar sound but I don't know how to achieve this in Guitarism. At least by sticking to a fuzzy sound it helped to mask mistakes. I strummed the top 3 strings together as kept missing the 4th string in practice. A searing bluesy type solo would have been delicious & made the song a bit longer but that's a pipe dream at present. Yes @richardyot I couldn't believe how realistic Guitarism sounds. Now I'm beginning to understand why riffs makes rock guitarists feel so strong, powerful....almost God like. Haha, no more air guitar dancing for me. Just plug my iPad into a stereo, crank it up & strum one note in distortion mode.
Totally agree about the vocals needing to be more prominent. If I had your voice @LostBoy85 it would have been much higher in the mix! It's that worry of putting yourself out there in naked form (I mean the voice) so I kept turning them down. Do I simply delete the track from Soundcloud, remix then upload it again? I can't seem to edit anything (in Soundcloud) from my iPad & have to use a laptop instead.
I will check out those artists @monzo & @Igneous1 for future inspiration. For it to remind you of ANYONE musical is unbelievable & a real tonic for me.
Without this forum & the wonderful people who contribute to it, I would still be dreaming about creating a song.
Again THANKYOU.
@Bluepunk - I don't use Guitarism, but I find Tonestack excellent for beefing up my live guitar and apps such as iFretless. If you're looking for a raunchier sound I'd definitely recommend it.
Thanks @monzo I will be checking that out once I get my P.45 later today! Hope it's got presets haha.
@Bluepunk yeah I second @monzo's recommendation of Tonestack. Was able to get some really dirty and crude distortions with it.
Look forward to listening to your track tonight, and welcome to the SOTMC.

@JohnnyGoodyear thanks so much Johnny, I'm still in huge shock about all these positive opinions. You are so right about the attitude in my voice. The swearing is a poor substitute for the aggression that I wish I could have portrayed. I was listening to Mr Lydon from back in the day. He made any word sound violent, threatening, scary without needing to use the Chubby Brown expletives that I did. Class!
I felt the same about Jilted Johns hit song. But one of the most memorable punk riffs for me. De De Dah, De De Dah. Got engrained in my brain.
Twickenham eh? Wasn't that where The London SS were from? The band that was to act as a launchpad for many a young punkster to go onto more well known Punk combos.
Thanks & these comments have spurned me on to fire a few more notes into Guitarism. I suppose not knowing the rules about chords etc could aid me & not tie me down to a set structure (if there is one) of what note should be with what note.
A very happy man I am.
Thanks for the welcome & the words dirty & crude distortions work for me. It sounds like a must have app for me & this style of music. Can't wait!
The "rules" are so simple you could learn them in 15 minutes, especially for a 3 chord punk song. I think that by default Guitarism will put compatible chords together anyway. But going by ear is a tried and tested technique used by generations of songwriters.
The good thing about knowing the rules is that you can use (and abuse them) to create tension. But many many very famous songs break the "rules" of harmony and get away with it without people's eardrums spontaneously bleeding. For example the the signature phrase in "Imagine" going from one chord to the next is a chromatic run with the middle note coming from outside the key, but it's one of the main things that gives the song it's character and is instantly recognisable. Another very famous chromatic run is right at the heart of the riff of "Come As You Are", again with the middle (passing) note coming from outside the key, but that's why the riff sounds cool. And lots of songs use chords from outside the key because they sound right for the song.
All this to say that I think a bit of theory can go a long way, but the rules are guidelines and feeling is king.
@richardyot thanks Richard, the help, technical assistance & understanding on this forum is simply brilliant. Chromatic Run! Now I can't wait for the weekend to go research & understand these terms. I'm in sponge mode & want to soak all this greatly appreciated info up & see where it takes the next song. Sorry for my ignorance but which note is the passing note. Do you mean in the sung bit "come as you are?"
Also, I'm sure I saw you talking about your new headphones on a thread a month or so ago. I think I need new ones as mixing on my 15 year old set may not be helping matters with regards to levels & feeling. A bad workman blames his tools......etc...etc.
Can I simply delete the track off Soundcloud & remix & reload. Sure I read that once deleted, it can't be re-installed. Thanks....from an ignorant, fish out of water newbieish bloke!
I gave my word
to stop at third.
I think this one is tricky for a non-US audience, Urban Dictionary was able to help me out though, and all I can say is that we have very different interpretations of the word "feeling".
The base app has a few boxes with it, not sure which as I have the Motherlode IAP - was on sale, not sure if you've missed that though. BIAS do another one that's supposed to be good for distortions too.
The first punk I saw was Alison Moyet in our local park, scared the living day lights out of me. First punk band was XTC on the telly, who were quite scary as well in the beginning. First punk record I bought 'No more heroes'.
I mean the guitar riff in the intro. If you hum it to yourself da-da-de-da---da-da-da-da the de (third note in the riff) is a note that doesn't belong in the key. Actually that's one of the cool things about learning an instrument and learning a few songs you like - you can see how the rules get broken/abused. I only know about the chromatic notes in Come As You Are and Imagine because I learnt to play both of them on the guitar and piano respectively. (Imagine is really easy to play, even someone who has never played piano could learn it pretty quickly.).
Another trick that I've seen in some songs I like is to play the IV and V for a few bars to create tension, because your ears are waiting for the I, so when the tonic (home chord) comes it creates a satisfying feeling (the roman numerals mean the 4th and 5th chords in the scale, and of course the root is the I).
Hook Theory is a nice app that will teach you the basics if you're interested:
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/hooktheory-i-music-theory/id862112892?mt=8
I'm using these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Focal-H5007-Spirit-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00EXO8Y3Y/
They're very good, I have a reasonably-sized collection of expensive headphones but these are the only ones I can really trust for mixing.
To update a track on SoundCloud you need a Pro account, so sadly the rest of us have to delete and re-upload.
Context (and a favorite old t-shirt
@bluepunk
Really enjoyed that. Reminded me of the Ramones a bit. I'm impressed with the use of guitarist as well. I agree vocals and bass need to come up in volume. Great great song. Make more like it!
@monzo Thanks for the app advice, just gutted I missed the sale. I did have a brief look a couple of weeks back but thought it was a "build your own amp" type thing, which put the brakes on the pressing of the download button. I should have looked into it deeper. I'm trying to get that chug, chug chugging sound/style ala Steve Jones from the Pistols.
Ah XTC, they wrote some brilliant songs & I think they were probably one of the more tuneful bands of their time. "We're only making plans.....for Nigel.....de de da.....de de da." It makes me wanna get all the old vinyl out again. Yep, I think a lot of folks started listening to The Stranglers that wouldn't normally have listened to Punk? Was it the keyboard inclusion that gave them a more radio friendly sound? Now......there's an idea!
