Lol everyone has amazing comments and I feel the pain. There was a lot of iPad hate in that akai article though. First company to come out with a "standalone machine" type beast has my money...and my soul!!

    It's called an OP-1!!

Note that awhile ago akai changed the Mpc trademark to stand for 'music production controller', if you watch the launch video for the touch you will see they have changed it back to 'music production centre'.. I think a new standalone is on the way

  • look at their Facebook page, how they keep copy pasting the same exact answer and the winky emoji, I think something is going on, the touch might not just be the end of the story. this is mighty peculiar.

  • Also they demoed a standalone Mpc at the Microsoft dev conference this year..

  • i remember that. Not happy about the look or color but still interested.

True! I've had my eye on that for so long. Looking for more of a 16 pad type unit but the OP-1 is a work of art. Seen some videos of it online and looks like it pairs nice with the iPad

Between the iPad as a straightforward sound source, and as a midi controller w/ the OP, it's a pretty flexible arrangement.

Yeah, the OP-1 is brilliant. I am seriously thinking about getting one to use with my Ipad. They are self-contained but also make excellent controllers for Ipad apps. and even have a really cool Lemur template available for controlling the on-board synths. They also have Ableton and Reason control templates for desktop use.

maschine is already dead, it's like the imaschine of desktop drum sequencers

    ???
I don't think so. Maschine has become a new standard for hybrid software/hardware integrated platforms for quite some time now. Akai, on the other hand, has been the laughing stock ever since they abandoned all their standalone samplers and failed at virtually everything they've put out since, like all their plastic controllers destined for landfills, the Wolf crap and all their buggy attempts at biting Maschine.

  • he who bites last while biting he who bit first is not biting at all but rather nibbling on themselves.
you can't become a new standard for poorly emulating an old standard.
I prefer elektron capabilities over maschines capabilities any day.

  • The Akai MaschinePC. Snooze button.

Seems pricy given the sounds are stored not in the unit but on your computer.

  • it is pricey huh, bring on the true stand alones.
