Logged out when I click "back"

Does anyone else get this using the forum on iPhone? Every time I go into a thread then click back it shows me not signed in. Hitting refresh restores me as logged in but that gets old very quickly.

Doesn't happen on iPad. Could this be a setting?

  • Same here. Not always but fairly regularly. I find if I hit the logo instead of back, all works.

If anything, it's a bug with the Vanilla Forum software that will hopefully be patched by the time the AB team next updates their copy of it.

The logo is kinda small and all the way up the top. The back button is positioned for easy reach. I know, I know, first world problems and all that but these little things get to you sometimes. A fly bumps into the window once, you ignore it...

I guess you right these things are usually some third party open source app, lightly skinned.

  • Got the same problem on my iPad last few weeks - good to know I am not alone ;-)

  • Seeing it too. I've seen it using the back arrow and swiping left to right. When it happens, I usually tap at the top to bring me to the start of the page, then click "Discussions", and that has always worked for me.

  • I had the problem on my 4s the past few weeks. That phone was on its last legs though and got replaced. It hasn't been happening on my new phone (6s). Ios 9 was not kind to my 4s in many ways.

On my iPad air this did not happen at all. Yes, first world for sure but annoying nonetheless.

  • Same here. Seem ok now(at the mo)

  • Same here using Safari. Doesn't seem to happen when I use Chrome.

  • I've had the same problem, quite intermittent, both on desktop and, in the past, on my iPad. Out of habit, I just hit the "Discussions" tab nowadays after I've pounded thru a thread to circumvent the issue. But I'll up you one first world problem - I can't log in to this specific forum on my iPad using Safari, Opera Mini nor Chrome. I can log into Auria Forums, Drainbook and Tubesuck stay logged in - everywhere but here works fine ...

I should qualify this by saying Sebastian was a champ from the moment the problem first surfaced. He politely put a LOT of time and effort into trying to help me out, and even dragged Michael away from vacation and/or Loopy Masterpiece at one point long enough to take a look (after our 6th or 7th email exchange). We tried everything we could think of, in and out and up and down all the settings Apple and others have to offer. Apparently, it's just a fluke. I have nothing but gratitude for the effort the AB team put into one forum member's mobile login issues.

New account, then, partial as I may be to my online alter-ego? No dice. Lemmy is now a member of the Audiobus community and he can't log in from my iPad either. Hopefully upgrading to 9.0.x zaps whatever glitch has parked itself in my iPad. I'm sure a factory reset would do the trick, but I'm also sure I don't feel like trying to back up over 60 GB of Auria projects, BS-16i sound fonts, Audioshare samples, Alchemy, etc. At the end of the day, it's just One of Those Things ...

  • Thanks for the clarification @eustressor. Sounds like you thoroughly explored the mill already over this one. Say hi to @Lemmy and thank him for playing his part too.

  • I have this from time to time, too. Hitting "home" at the bottom of the page always works, then (thus no need to scroll all the way up..)

    Yeah what he said^

  • Reloading the page resolves it.

It may be a case of too many open tabs on ur browser, and memory allocation.

  • Happens each time. I have to do a subsequent command-R.

Interesting. Only happens to me on my phone. Using Safari in Yosemite right now.

That would depend on me having spotted that link ;) thanks animal.

Not a big tab user mostly. Not sure how much memory the 6S has compared to an iPad Air 1 either. Wouldn't have thought it was that because it happens very regularly and sometimes I have nothing else open. I think the home link, that I never noticed, is the quickest route for me now.

  • Hi guys. I just applied some Vanilla forum updates. Can you tell me if it's still happening?

    Cheers!

I just licked the page but I can't taste the Vanilla, made a mess on my new MacBook Pro.

  • Hmm.. Did you try rebooting? I definitely taste Vanilla

  • I have it happen on my Air2 iOS 9.02. I use a bookmark to go back to the main page now and that keeps me logged in.

What are your cookie settings? I've just got mine set to block third-party advertisers and the forum works fine (though I'm on iOS 7x) on my phone.

    Yes, just happened still.

    [Safari, MacBookPro, E.I.Captain]

I should also point out ☞ that I’m only ever logged in via twitter, as the google login hasn’t worked for me for a very long while.

It says 'allow from websites I visit' never changed it because that sort of thing never ends well.

  • I could not get on the forum for a few weeks this summer on my iPad only . Got a lot more work done actually , go figure. Finally I figured out I could use an old name on my PC and get on and then one day my iPad began to work again as if some magic spell had been cast.

Sounds like it should work then. Usually cookies not being set properly are the culprit for this sort of issue, though firewalls and rogue ad blockers can cause problems as well.

Another possibility are the website's permalink settings - hitting the back button instead of the home could muck up the URL's and so set cookies get lost.

  • I have issues with Audiobus on my PC actually.

    Just usually reload.

I guess the new norm and my motto these days is "work around " and "patience" dealing with PC and IOS issues these days.

  • Seems to have fixed it on my iPad Air 1, 9.0.2, Safari

  • We should hold a poll.

About who logs in via twitter / google (if that works at all for anyone / the other two authentication types (can't remember what they are - farcebook and openID whatever that is) or who logs in with an old-school old-fashioned yet another separate account name and password to remember type of way.

  • I log on the old-school old-fashioned "you don't need to know even more about me google or Facebook" way.
