Positive Grid should take note, not that Developers shouldn't be compensated for the work they do. How could I possibly complain about a $10.00 upgrade, when Bias FX cost me 4X as much, + IAP's. Then there's Bias distortion that will be out tomorrow. I'm sure that'll be at least $20.00. I'll sure as shit get it, but maybe not right away if I have Tone Stack to fiddle with.
Any benefit to upgrading if I don't plan on purchasing iaps? I'm on an old mini and worried about risking the solid performance I have going now.
Any advice?
If you have solid performance and don't want the (I think wonderful) iap, then it's not worth the risk.
I shall be trying this update out with my Yonac picks !
I plan to see whats new before looking at the new IAPs.
The Fu-Tron IV effect is awesome! Love the goofy rubber-bandness
They should work up some good glitchy/slicer type effects for later IAPs, or else Turnado should add fifty or so distortion pedals. Or the two apps should have a child.
Crap, BIAS Distortion comes out tomorrow? I really shouldn't get that, BIAS FX was a bad enough idea, but at least it can function as a self-contained app on my old-as-sin iPad2. Is BIAS Distortion going to be an AudioBus/IAA FX app only? (If so, you could use it to make pedals for use in ToneStack!)
Anyway, the problem with Positive Grid isn't that they are releasing a bunch of stuff and charging for it, it's that much of that "stuff" overlaps prior products and is being worked on at the detriment of the earlier products. JamUp XT is probably the amp modeler that I've used the most on iOS, but Positive Grid themselves is telling me that it's been supplanted by releasing BIAS, and then replacing that with a more complete package in BIAS FX. There's some integration between these things, but mostly it's just a lot of noise.
I think with these 15 additional amps (and much needed love for bass), ToneStack shoots back into the lead here. Not to mention the fact that it's a universal app, and 300MB of stuff really isn't too excessive given the variety of tones offered by the app. You could literally take ToneStack, a good rhythm app, and MTDAW and record legit tracks for a very reasonable price.
So for someone who has never purchased Tone Stack, the price is $5 for the app. How much is the Motherload v. 2.0 right now? It doesn't say on iTunes store and I don't want to buy the app if it is $50. I've been screwed by Positive Grid several times now and I don't want to buy a "base" guitar amp only to have to spend a fortune getting more amps and pedals. Thanks!
my bad I guess it's next week. for Bias
Thanks, I'll really have to think about that... quite a few $5 apps in that IAP price.
To answer my own question...yes the benefit is 8x faster loaded presets. No problems detected yet.
Absolutely. I turned my bass player onto TS tonight. Had him playing through an iPod touch 5 (at 128 frames) and he couldn't get over how good the bass amp models and effects sounded playing straight into the mixing console. My take is this - both are great modelers. If you want to tweak your amps and pedals to the nth degree - go the BiasFX route. If you want a great sounding modeler with tons of models and fx - and with a superior midi implementation - look seriously into ToneStack.
Excellent value for money for the motherload 2 upgrade. After a fairly cursory exploration of the new stuff, it's the 'Apex' and 'Bourbon Neat' distortion pedals that really shine, IMO.
Favorite amp sim. Only one that Let's you use IAA so you can use other apps in the chain. Amazingly clean sound too
Arise, ye thread of olde!
Bias FX allows this as well, though I never use it that way.
Just want to let everyone know that I am crazy. Always changing my mind on what I like and don't. I was just playing with Tonestack and it's really nice, especially the effects.
