MIDI is flawless but iDensity has all kinds of pops and crackles for me thru the Audio. Don't feel like sinking more time into troubleshooting....
I tried some other synths and they sounded a lot better. iDensity seems to be highly sensitive to background audio specificities that i couldn't describe with human words so I dunno...
Can anyone speak to the ease or difficulty of setting this all up as an aggregate device on a Mac? I've been hovering over the buy button for a while now, but am curious about how I'm going to integrate it with my Saffire Pro 40. I also assume that I would need to switch between the aggregate device and the regular Saffire I/O as options, and couldn't simply default to the aggregate option and plug/unplug my iPad at will, right?
Also, I see that one option is the ability to multitrack audio from your iPad to your DAW. How well does this work for you folks? The limitation of stereo only output has been kind of a limitation for me in the past with iOS, so the idea of tracking a few apps in Ableton simultaneously is pretty exciting.
^ Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Surely somebody can comment on some of my questions above...
@Accent, maybe people who would like to answer, just have something else to do, like for example to work ;-)
Short answer before I go to sleep. No problem with Studiomux creating an aggregate device. But there are so many ways of how to connect to the studio setup of your choice. It begins with how you start from you iPad. You can go through AB, or not. Through Cubasis a bit more tricky but works. They updated meanwhile their website with instructions. With my UR28M to Cubase as aggregate also no problem. Didn't dig to deep in all the other possibilities of the new studiomux. Routing Midi our sound through iConnectMidi+, also no problem.
When I want to route the sound to my Mac without Cubase I use Minihost Modular. No experience yet with multitrack.
I've never requested an app refund before, but it's looking like Studiomux/Midimux might be the first. Running the latest version of iOS 8 on an iPad 4, just trying to get audio from/midi to a single iOS synth from Ableton Live. I've managed to get audio from Animoog to play through my computer/interface by playing on the iPad screen, but midi is a total bust. Live saw Animoog once and I set Track and Remote, but has never seen it since; even more perplexing, Midimux seems to have no idea what ports are for what. It either doesn't recognize any at all, or will correctly identify the ports on my MBP under the Remote Port, only to then somehow switch them the Local port by the time I've got Studiomux and a synth set up. Hell, it seems like there is no way for it to even maintain any kind of connection to last long enough to open Studiomux, Midimux, and a single synth-by the time all three are simply opened, something stops working. I'm no stranger to dealing with deep and complex midi issues, but this is something else entirely and I'm more angry than I should be after losing two evenings to trying to get this damn $10 app to work.
Are you using Studiomux with Midimux? Midimux is only for devices that can't support the audio capabilities of Studiomux so its more of a legacy support deal. Studiomux has midi, audio, and OSC. So just use Studiomux. As for the midi, if you're referring to note-to-midi, that's only supported if you directly load an IAA instrument that supports it like AniMoog, Casselini, etc. I'm still a noob with midi and just successfully got Studiomux to work with Audiobus routing Elastic Drums to Studiomux in one channel and AniMoog to Studiomux in a second channel of Audiobus. For my computer DAW, I'm using Renoise, I basically had to set the midi channel (not sure if output or input as I'm noob :P so I do both in case.. perhaps someone can clear this up for me?) on both Elastic Drums and AniMoog. Then I tell Renoise to interact with them on separate instruments/AU's each and get the midi routing listening in on the respective MIDI channels for both of the aforementioned apps. Once I got all that setup, I was able to Midi Learn Elastic Drums "jam" screen to some keyboard keys, whereas AniMoog was already working once I had Renoise listen in on the correct MIDI channel. Anyway, Elastic Drums is kind of a pain because I had to redo the whole process of midi learn and setting up the channels and shit since it doesn't yet support Audiobus State Saving. Animoog remained working correctly though.
I set up a local port in Studiomux, called 'ipad' or whatever, and then route the MIDI out of my apps (ChordPolyPad usually) to that. FL Studio picks up both the local server & any additional open apps with MIDI out, but I only enable the server as an input to keep things conflict-free. This is all my low-MIDI-education method but so far it works flawlessly. And as said above, if you're using Studiomux you don't need MIDImux.
Also if you have problems with Studiomux, contact the devs, they've been very helpful with me in earlier stages of the software.
