Cool. So cool
Massive
Wow!!!
It deserves be called 4.0
Wanted to say the same! That's a great package!
Great update minus Audio Tracks.
Dear old/new Caustic. There's something friendly about it. And this is certainly a serious update. I always feel that an inability to make 'pro' sounding stuff in this environment must surely be my own fault. Must do better. Perhaps the improved stem support will encourage more regular partial use.
That's a good update! :-)
Poor mans gadget but rich mans android dream app
The bpm change thing is very very cool and might entice me to do a track on it
But the UI is unecessarily ugly tho..seems he spent more time trying to code features which is cool
To each his own but I get much more done with Caustic than Gadget.
I find Caustic much more "friendly" as Mr. Goodyear termed it.
Also Gadget is skin-able so you can customize the UI.
Caustic hands down over Gadget! Also Caustic is universal which is a huge plus for an iPad less human
Looks cool. Nice that it now has scales for the keyboard (I wonder if the piano roll can be restricted to a scale?)
I must admit to never using Caustic. It's UI never appealed and I read a lot of comments about the sound quality not being 100%. Not sure if that is true or not though.
Could anyone remind me on:
IAA host?
midi in (multi channel?)
midi out (multi channel?)
audio tracks?
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
Midi in multi channel x14, cc mapping and midi learn. Not an IAA host, but Multitimbral IAA generator. No midi out that I know of...no audio tracks but sample import for Beatbox and pcm synth.
My experience with audio quality is that Caustic audio is tasty. The onboard synthesis options, for a "self contained" workstation have no peer on iOS, in terms of variety and control, Gadget included. (One example: Most Gadgets are PCM, Caustic has a PCM too but you can load it with your own samples and sf)
And thats pre- this teaser and the new synth stuff it promises.
Considering each new "gadget" isn't an IAP, and the initial buyin is $10...
Impressive amount of good stuff
Great video. I was unaware of his YouTube channel, so it looks like I've got a lot of Caustic videos to watch.
Admittedly I've not really used Caustic much. Gadget has been my go-to, but perhaps I'll give it another go this weekend.
Thanks for sharing this video!
Downright LOVELY news. YES Caustic, YES!
To the Comments about Caustic being....
Caustic can be skinned and there's wonderful skins made for it online...just go to the skin option and select "get more".
Caustic being ugly
Holy...
stem export
Ok, thanx..I take it back, it's good there's options now
I like the "darker" skin
Darker is my choice too
Thanks Hex.
The change skin options make it more appealing
I hear you about the sound quality, especially when compared to gadget
Gadget just has that overall good sound delivered, with caustic, there seems to be a certain lacklustre, but with the eqs and other fx, I'm certain with considerable effort we could get that certain beefy clear sound we need
It means taking a lot more time...
I have heard quite a few decent caustic tracks that are right up there with gadget tunes you know, but they were made by android users who have scant other options and were likely gratified to have something that they can use to make proper tunage
I just made an intense preset very quickly on the sub synth which is basically close to the subtractor in reason, a synth I used to love back in my pc days, so I'd say it is a useful app
But, gadget is less stressful so I doubt I'd use it on my iPad mini retina, but I downloaded the free version on my Experia m4 Aqua and will dabble when out and about
I'd say give it a try Matt, you could get some good sounds out of it with a bit of patience, it is good..definatly more featured and versatile than nanostudio and bm2
Just started with Caustic. It kind of reminds me of when the first digital synths came in to being. It definitely lacks something in the sound, but I still find it fun to play with its instruments. Wouldn't want to use it to make tracks with on its own though.
Agreed. I am putting a side a few hours to look at it just as a stem developer (with the new feature in mind) and I realize that I can damn a baby and its bathwater sometimes when it's good at doing some things well....I also realize that quality-wise I somehow confuse it with Looptical and probably conflate the weaker points of both (to the detriment of both etc).
It's sounds great and has some powerful features, ESP the modular synth module. Good use of the fx racks helps a lot!
Agree about the quality sounding a lil lofi. Hopefully the stero support will improve it somehow.
This is exactly the reason, I believe, that people perceive the sound to be less than that Gadget. The patches have no effects by default. If patches were able to save the effects, we would see a huge increase in the perception of the sound quality. The quality has always been there, but the perception has not.
If someone can't figure out how to make Caustic sound good maybe they need to go back to school. It is very similar to Reason in software and also very similar to many of my old hardware setups. A couple of synths, a drum machine, some effects and a mixer plus a sequencer. It ain't rocket science. It's what you do with it.
PS - this is not addressed to anyone in particular.
