Synth recommendation
Which one?
I want atmospheric, ethereal, ambient and pretty sounding pre-sets ( don't know enough at this stage to do lots of tweaking ) I can supply the ugly side of things with my guitar , not always on purpose either
I already have Animoog, iMS-20 and Laplace, I'm running an air2 .
What do I need ?
Cheers

Alchemy would have been perfect, so if it ever gets resurrected then definitely grab it, but other than that I think Mitosynth might best fit your description.
+1 to what @richardyot said. Also consider Addictive synth, Grain Science, or Crystal Synth XT.
WaveMapper would also be worth checking out.
I've probably got nearly every synth app out there now. My workhorse/regularly used synths would include Thor, Nave, Sunrizer and iSEM, and some of the Gadget synths are nice too. Animoog, Mitosynth and iProphet are good for pads. For strange noises iVCS3 and Cyclop. My favourite synth at the moment is Lorentz, which like Addictive has a nice arp.
Sythn apps all have their own distinct sound and UI, so I tend to pick one that'll work for the type of sound I'm after. I've yet to find a real 'all-rounder', which means I have to keep on buying more so I cover all bases.
A def +1 to Mitosynth and Wavemapper.
Another way around it is to use the synths you have, but use effects. ApeFilter and WOW would be a good choices. A good delay and reverb essential.
Forgot to add, Gadget would fit the purpose too.
If it's mainly presets you want then SynthMaster can provide you with some pretty rich and lush sounds.
iProphet by Arturia may also work for you. It comes packed with plenty of presets with some really nice and rich etheral type of pads.
Another vote for Mitosynth for the preset approach. Crystal XT and Addictive are also good options.
Some other options:
TC Performer has plenty of presets that would work.
Borderlands and Samplr if you want to get creative.
Mmm. Definitely Animoog. Thor has some great presets but maybe not so ethereal.
Z3ta has hundreds of presets you can get online for the PC version and then import them in. Same goes for NanoStudio. They could both handle the type of stuff you want.
Photophor or whatever it's called.
Synthmaster for Value and quick preset tweakability. You cant easily 'break out' of the preset per se but it is great for easily nestling it into the mix. if Alchemy were still an option I would certainly recommend that too but RIP Alchemy, till ye rise again.
I'd throw Tera Synth in there too maybe - it's very versatile - does most things well - and I think there are some very lush atmospheric pads in the presets provided.
mmm yes, Tera Synth sounds great. The only reason I tend to overlook it is that I was getting stuck lower notes for some reason when trying to sequence it. Something about the midi, was gettin gummed up... To get technical
Thanks everyone, just been listening to the mitosynth on utube and it sounds great , going to give the rest of your suggestions a look too.
Only trouble is , since joining this forum I've upgraded tonestack, bought ape filter and delay, Fugue, fieldscaper, thumbjam, Laplace, final touch, borderlands, dub filter and limiter, had a lot of fun with all of them but definitely going to have start rationing myself...once I've decided which synth to get obviously
@Kin
Only food, warmth and loved ones should come before music apps. My bad advice, never ration lol
Stria
You are one of us now.....
@kin
Buy the way - you need to buy Gadget - just because - and then you could do a lot worse than "Helsinki", "Kiev" and "Wolfsburg" and well as even "Kingston" with long attacks and releases... And then of course theres M1.
One of the things with the music you're describing, i'd have thought , is the automation of the sounds through - having stuff evolve and transform... Gadget's automation tracks are really good for this...
Warmth is not on my list, just play faster!!!
Winter is coming!
Agree.
Alchemy amazing soundscape palette
Mitosynth BEST atom.evolving synth out there.
Sorry but I can't get on with the icegear synths. Those UI decisions like putting tiny icons together in the corner of Laplace when there is a huge amount of unused room drive me crazy. Tiny buttons, labelling. I'm hunched over my keyboard with my face in the iPad. I can see fine I don't need glasses. The preset buttons can be confusing. Want to make a change to an effect like turn it off? Hit the button to open the window then close it then hit the button to open another effect window. Etc. rant over, not buying Lorentz.
I like Thor, animoog, iSEM, ivcs3, ims20, wavegenerator, sunrizer. Don't have nave but I'd probably like that. Nice UI on that one.
Thor is a good example of how to pack a lot into one screen and make it easy to use.
I'd have to counter this and praise the Icegear layout for Laplace and Lorentz. I really like having it all there at once for patch design. It's more intuitive for me to go back and forth and try different settings I may not think to try if I have to go through different pages. I find that I always write more patches in these synths (and FM4) as a result.
I think I'd rather have the hidden sections that allow it to fit on one page, be together on a separate page. The Lfo, arp, and 3 effects.
It's mainly tiny buttons, labels, icons I can't stand. Especially when there is space. It's just one of those things that drives me crazy. The synth app should be as struggle and squint free as possible.
Thor's not on one screen - the main keyboard is on a separate page and you have to expand the sections in the edit section to see them all.
I wouldn't dismiss Lorentz - unlike Laplace the effects are on the same page.
I am late for the competition, my guess is it MitoSynth?
I might consider Lorentz now that I've calmed down. Wasn't having a good experience with Laplace that's all (had issues with Cassini before as well so got me on an icegear thing).
Then switched over to Thor and had a lovely time. I use a midi keyboard so really only need access to the one Thor page.
well , so far I have purchased Synthmaster, Addictive synth and CrystalsynthXT ( free and 3.99 each for the other two, yes I'm a cheapskate ) and that's why I'm still up at stupid o clock writing this. Lot of great sounds on those three but I'm still going to get Mitosynth too.
Was trying to ignore Gadget and M1 @Matt_fletcher_2000, at least until next month, but thanks anyway
Next objective is to turn some of the inspiration from these things into an actual tune, thanks everyone!
From your description of what you want, the first response is dead on. Another +1 to MitoSynth. I'd say stop reading and buy it. Then don't forget to get the free second wave pack of presets; they're just as fantastic.
