Simple chord generator from input of MIDI CC note?
I have a Beatstep Pro. It produces single notes. In Ableton I can add a chord MIDI effect on a channel to have certain chords produced with just one note input. I am looking for something similar as a go between my Beatstep and iOS synths as an iOS app. What's the simplest option?

Hi! Take a look at this video on how GuitarCapo+ sends chords on MIDI out from chordpads trigged by single notes on MIDI In (in "Pad Mode")
So do I:)
A small "trick"..the drum sequencer can produce 16 notes at a time:) Since it is in chromatic scale, you have to choose notes manually by recording the 2,3,4 note chords into the drum pattern on same step with different notes
But you will loose the drums... Another way is to use a synth like Magellan, that plays chords with a single note if you activate the chord thing...
If you like to get in deep, deep, deep, then Midi Mind may be worth a look. MIDI MIND by dyslexia software

MIDI Mind Looks interesting. I assume with GuitarCapo+ I can just mute the guitar sound engine.
MIDI Mind is cool except for the fact that it will not run in the background. This limits its functionality substantially, as you can't really perform 'live' on the iPad using another app. You may be able to get around this limitation though if you sent the midi to another device that has MIDI Mind running in the foreground... using midi over bluetooth or something. You can set it to trigger based on a threshold note velocity, which is really cool. I emailed the MIDI Mind dev about adding background app functionality and he said this was something he was working on, but that was probably a year ago and there's been no app updates since.
Does Midi Mind have presets?
I've also come from Ableton and definitely miss it's midi capabilities.
If you could use Magellan as a synth module, it has a way to define custom chords from single notes. I've been using Magellan this way live with a KMI Softstep controller. I can save the chord map with the preset, and I can pull up presets via midi.
I've also used Genome, and created a midi clip with the chord I wanted, though I'd extend out the duration for as long as I might need to hold. Then, I map the clip to a midi note on my controller, and set the clip as a one shot and have the notes cutoff as soon as I let up. Only problem is that Genome's clip launches can't be instantaneous, though they can be set to launch within a 1/16t. Set your clock high and it's close.
You can also do this with MidiBridge, I believe, using its stream byter component, if you don't mind a little coding.
ChordPolyPad does this well
Good call. Just send it through ChordPolyPad.
Or actually, you could probably use StepPolyArp.
Set it up to play chords (a 1st and a 5th), which I think you can do, and then send it notes. That should work for simple chords like that.
Looks like it might just do the trick. A bit pricey though. Might wait for a sale.
Both ChordPolyPad & StepPoly Arp are well worth the money. They're two of the finest MIDI controllers available.
However, if the prices feel to steep, you may wanna look for other options. Neither app has ever gone on sale in 2+years (currently browsing the price drops), just FYI
