Bluetooth Speakers?

Just to confirm - is it true that Bluetooth speakers will NOT work with any synth/music related apps? Or is it only selected apps?

Only selected apps will work with Bluetooth speakers as the app has to specifically support bluetooth audio.
It is also important to note the following 2 points
When using Bluetooth Speakers you will get more latency than when using wired speakers. This is not usually a problem for monitoring, but will affect live playing of instruments.
Bluetooth audio is compressed (file size not dynamics) so sound may be of a lower quality. Not a problem for checking mastered mixes on different setups, but not good for performing mixes or sound design.

I'm not sure how AB handles BT speakers though.

  • AFAIK Apple will not allow any app that can record audio in any way to also support BT speakers.

Last time I checked, cubasis supports bluetooth audio

Is it possible to record when using BT in Cubasis?

According to Rim (the developer of Auria) it shouldn't be possible, this is a post he made on the Auria forum last year:

It's not possible for an app which records and plays audio to support bluetooth currently. Some apps have created workarounds, where you switch to a special "playback only" mode which supports bluetooth

But anyway thanks for the clarification, I wasn't aware of the BT mode in Cubasis, something I ought to test when I get the chance.

Hmmm could be so. I must admit that whenever I am recording audio I use headphones and only use the BT mode when checking mixes on different speakers.
I think BT does work when recording MIDI though.

  • Hmm - I was just thinking of getting a set of speakers to use on the table while I dink around - no 'pro' work here... I'm currently using an old $10 Radio Shack headphone now... the speakers are about as big as a nickle (US) and set in your ear... Light and sound reasonable (for these old ears!) - but the cord is a PITA. I didn't realize BT would not offer decent audio performance.

BT Audio is not bad quality, it is just not the same as wired quality. I guess it is equivalent to MP3 vs WAV, aside for the added latency
