Rediscovering Z3ta

Just wanted to give Z3ta some love.

What a massive synth... I spent about an hour tweaking from 3 or 4 bass presets.

Getting MultiTrack Studio now makes it viable to for me to actually use synths like Z3ta in tracks.

One more great thing. About 2 years ago I loaded a bunch of presets in I found and bought on the internet for the PC version. Two iPads later and I boot it up and find that every single one is still there. A very pleasant surprise.

  • Z3TA is one of the best, pretty much does it all. I got the PC version a few months ago based on the quality sounds I was getting out of the iOS one. I still haven't got round to trying the presets yet, too much fun to be had starting with an Initial patch and getting stuck in.

  • One question. I don't suppose Z3ta will send Midi CCs out will it?

I'd like to tweak its knobs and record the modulations as midi to MTS. Then adjust until happy. Then record.

I did a test for you, it works smoothly. Use "cont" feature of MTS in the "CNTR" window under midi track. In Z3ta+ app, you enable midi learn, then choose ,filter cutoff for making example, what you want to tweak. Then return the zeta back to main page, you can see the knobs correlated to the line you draw on MTS.

Long time no playing Z3ta+, like it more and more!

Long ago, I hated Z3ta+ much because of tiny window. Now I getting matured with synths app. Z3ta+ is awesome!

Someone has iPad Pro must be very happy with Z3ta+ app.

  • Wow thanks @Kaikoo - very kind of you to post this.

Funny thing is I've just now been doing exactly that in MTS before I checked back to this post.

It works so well. The automation in MTS is really very nice. Better than Gadget's I think. I love the 'dot' method. (The plus sign). You can even type in exact values.

Another method is also assigning a midi cc to MTS's keyboard mod wheel (in MTS its called the slider). You can then wiggle this live to get the modulation you want out of Zeta while it will also record your movements as midi so you can tweak later.

One hitch was the fact I wanted to record midi CCs as a second pass on an existing note patten and recording the CCs stops it playing the notes. Solution is to create a separate midi track simply for cc modulation. Then it works fine.

It finally feels like I've got a DAW where i have complete and easy control over a third party synth. Very exciting.

I like to say, Z3ta clock can not be slaved well with Fugue Machine. Tempo jump causing noise! In MTS, Z3ta worked and slaved well. Since Fugue Machine midi in feature not work well for me, I do not know which between the two (Z3ta or Fugue) goes wrong. Both Fugue Machine and Z3ta need an updates!

  • I love Z3TA+
But is it just my setup or is Z3TA+ not making any sound through IAA ?

Just tested recording in Cubasis IAA, works fine. Tested recording in Audioshare, works fine. Air 2 iOS 9.1

  • One of the few glaring omissions in my synth collection. Look forward to a sale sometime...

  • Anyone know if it's now possible to add presets (since the ios8 block)?

  • I think you'd love it @Monzo.

Personally I must say I find it easier to get big nasty bass sounds out of than Cyclops.

Yeah, not using Cyclop as much as I thought I would. Will check it out at the next sale, bit preoccupied with 24k+ Alchemy patches at the moment...

  • Picked it up recently after getting tired of waiting for a sale. It's a great synth I agree but needs an update. You can only import one preset at a time (pop up dialogue box for each one) if you have iOS 8.3 and later. Then you can't arrange your user presets properly in folders. Plus still no multitouch on the knobs and sliders, but it does have midi learn so....

  • ZeTa is in my top 3 synth apps of all time.

It is full of depth and parameter control along with modulation control at a precision level.

Great for the classics as well as the new shtick.

I particularly enjoy the classics section. Zeta is one of the rare apps that the presets alone are phenomenal.

The audiobus tab didn't work for the longest time and that discouraged me. With the advent of A-B remote all that changed and Zeta was front and center again.

Plus, I am a sucker for an app that I have a matching VST.

  • I'm really pleased with myself for stacking it full of third party presets when I was pre iOS8.3 then. I really went to town because there are loads of PC ones to buy.

    I have folders and all.

Sounds very bad on importing them now.

Thanks for trying that out, I don't get any sound when loading into Cubasis, so at least I know now it is possible, I will try trouble shooting some more

    I'm of the same mind.

    I'm of the same mind.

And now Poseidon is muddying the waters...

  • If I could keep only one synth on my iPad, it would be Z3ta. It's ability to mimic other synths from old analog to modern is amazing.

  • For a guy like me whose frustration sky rockets quickly with tiny controls and works primarily on a mini (i know..), this is probably not for me. unfortunately

  • The lazy port syndrome has kept me away. Sugar Bytes has made me sour to this type of thing, and if these apps get a UI facelift it will be sweet.
