Gadget exporting to Live ?
Was wondering if people worked this way / had any thoughts about this ?
Currently working on my SOTMC entry, I've got 62 scenes in my Korg Gadget track and even though the track is only 3 minutes or so, it's getting rather unwieldy to arrange.
As much as I really like Gadget, it's arrangement features aren't too well specified. Dragging a scene from early on in the track to somewhere later is pretty clumsy and any kind of 'block moving' of whole sections just isn't catered for. So, I had a go at exporting the track as 'export Ableton Live Project', with the result below. It certainly has exported things in a clear and logical manner.
I'm wondering if this is a 'better' way of arranging once the track is starting to come together ? Also, being able to use my Novation Launchpad Mini and Launch control for 'live tweakings' - not to mention having track effects as well !

This is what I did a couple of months ago with my SOTMC track "Someday When I Wake Up". Since you have structure set up, this is where Live and LP come in handy. You can work in the scene set up you have and tweak away with your Launch Control, or start to mix and match and come up with some arrangement you hadn't even planned on. That's what I do. Opens up a lot. Same thing just with iKaosilator.
Use it a lot and love it for many of the reasons mentioned.
I can see real advantages doing things this way, but also the disadvantage of not being able to change (MIDI) parts as it exports clips. I know that Gadget can do some kind of MIDI export, but then you're working with different synths /drum boxes etc. in Live.
Also, I'm not terribly familiar with Live's arrangement page stuff.
I use gadgets export to live along with dropbox to export stems from Gadget and get them into Launchpad.
Steps
Export Abeton Live Project from Gadget - Select Dropbox
Once exported open dropbox and go to the KORG Gadget folder, you will see a folder for the project you just exported. Open it, you will then see a samples folder, open that too.
Move the files to the relevent folder within the Launchpad folders (I use BPM style folders as oppsed to the number of beats so that i can just move all the samples in one go)
Open Launchpad and then import your samples (as long as you have the IAP for sample import of course)
This is a great way of messing with your loops in different combinations, without having to do all the fiddling that you have to do in Gadget for arranging
Ive done that too. It's awesome for an all iOS workflow, but I gave up on that because with Launchpad you are still bouncing to one track. With Abelton, even in Live lite, you have 16 tracks that you can eq, add au and vst effects, or continue to arrange after the fact.
Agreed, But I don't have Ableton as I don't have use a PC at home, only for my day job, I have an entirely iOS setup. I use Launchpad to mess around and sort out my arrangement, I use it because once the loops are setup the 'messing around' is instant without need for copying parts or arranging onto a timeline (Much like Ableton), it is a much faster way of trying things out.
Once I have done this and have something I want to work with I put the arrangement together in Cubasis which is where I can then EQ and add effects as desired.
Then if I feel the need to 'perform' the arrangement live I can put the EQ'd loops back into Launchpad.
Still an entirely iOS workflow
Of course, I would much rather have a nice powerful laptop, Ableton, Push2, Launchpad Pro etc...... unfortunately the bank balance and space requirements do not allow me to.
On reflection, I think the Live approach may be better for reworks (for my way of doing things). I'm finding I still feel the need to pretty much finish the track in Gadget (from an arrangement point of view)
