Audiobus with imidipatchbay

Hi all,
I am brand new to this forum and just recently purchased both audiobus and imidipatchbay. I apologize in advance for my lack of experience with both apps, and if these questions have already been addressed I couldn't find them in my searches.
I started out using presets in audio bus with various apps (iGrand Piano, iLectric Piano, etc.) I basically launched the apps and routed them to Mimix to layer, and control the volume/pan of sounds. Then I purchased imidipatchbay, and I just ran all apps through there, where I seem to be able to control the same features (aside from slotting an effects app before output)
My questions are:
1.) Is there a reason I would want to use imidipatchbay and audiobus together, or should I be choosing one or the other?
2.) If they work in conjunction, what is the benefit, and what is the best way to do this?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

  • Audiobus deals with chaining audio signals and iMIDIPatchbay is a midi controller app. They do different things. You can setup your midi connections in the midi controller app and have it running in the background while you use Audiobus to route the audio signal chain. You should set the apps up and get them running in Audiobus first and then open up iMIDIPatchbay to setup your midi connections. If you don't need to run apps into a mixer or effects, then you wouldn't need to use Audiobus. iMIDIPatchbay lets you setup midi hardware and/or software (to trigger notes via midi for example).

  • Thanks Paul. It's all starting to make more sense after working with the apps a bit more. Having a few glitches when using Sample Tank, but I'll keep at it. Thank you for the reply.
