New video for Xkey Air. What micro-controller are you using?

Comments

  • Wish this one had touch strips for modulation and pitch bend. Regardless, I might still get it after hearing more details about the durability and velocity sensitivity.

  • After touch interests me, also.

  • €249 for 25 keys and €349 for 37 is a ridiculous price. If they were cheaper it would be interesting. I'm more likely to get a micro key air.

  • I guess these will connect to newer iDevices and Macs. I just wonder if they also can connect to Windows computers with Bluetooth 4?

  • Pretty can be so pricey....

  • I have the X Key 25. It's a good job they've created the air because the quality of their micro USB port is poor as I've found to my cost. It only has 2 locator pins and 2 solder pads rather than 4. This means that the micro USB port is highly susceptible to lifting from the board if the cable plug gets knocked . Any repair is hampered firstly due to the gorilla strength glue they use to stick the plastic backing plate on (they warned me that there was a good chance the plastic case would break in the act of attempting to remove it) and then by the difficulty of getting proper alignment with only 2 locator pins and fixing it securely enough with the 2 solder pads.

    I haven't been able to repair mine and am now waiting to hear from CME to see whether it's possible to buy a replacement circuit board. I'm guessing, given that the cost of purchasing the bespoke micro USB cable (required because standard ones are too thick on the plug end to fit ) from them is 30 percent of the cost of a new unit, that even if the board were available to purchase it would be cheaper to buy a new unit.

    Although I was very happy with the keys before this happened , I am currently not that impressed.

  • I have the usb version and really like it. I love the full size keys. Much easier to play. I agree the usb jack is pretty flimsy, but CME has been awesome. Mine broke within a month of purchase (bad key sensor). One email and I had a new one on the way to my house. Then I ran over usb cable with a crate and they sent me a replacement free of charge.

  • I had the USB version and returned it. The iPad was picky about when it wanted to connect to it and when not.
    Hopefully the BT version fixes this.
    Otherwise it was a damn nice controller. Pitchbend and Mod buttons were totally usable.

  • I can not remember the last time I saw that many black people in a commercial that wasn't specifically targeted at that market segment. Epic kudos to CME from the land of syrup and core.

    @Johnfromberkeley,

    I am using this and very happy with it: http://www.rolandus.com/products/pcr-300/
    See specs
    Excellent controller, discontinued, but many around in $70-100 price range in mint condition.

    It doesn't look "flashy", but sends clock, tempo, program change, start/stop, has aftertouch, split kbd. All can be done in standalone and it's not (too) big. Works with iPad of course.
