TNRi Should Be Tenori -On The Bus!

It's a great app which accurately simulates a hardware Tenori-On, which are fairly rare,
but now anyone with an iOS device ( even iPhone, at small size ) can play.

( See my reviews on YouTube, same name. )

It has unique ( often imitated but not exactly duplicated ) sequencing modes,
and a distinctive ambient electro / IDM / chiptune soundset + sampling + MIDI

What it lacks is a large variety of effects - thus it is a perfect candidate for Audiobus!

It seems likely that Yamaha will add it eventually, especially if we ask.
( They have other AB apps? And TNRi already supports other standards like WIST and Audio Copy. )

I post this thread to gather interest for when it does get -On the bus,
and also to mention -
we now have Monday Online Jam sessions, 6 - 9 PM PST USA

Comments

  • The only ones that Yamaha has on the bus, that I can recall, is the Mobile Music Sequencer and the Arp & Drum Arp.

  • TNRi was one of the first apps I wanted. I still don't have it.
Can anybody explain why Yamaha is not on all AppStores around the world?
I don't want to have multiple accounts just to get their stuff.

  • Yea it's a fun little app, would def be cool on the bus. With Yamaha's recent additions of Mobile Music Sequencer and Synth Arp & Drum Pad, they're not ignorant to the technology so maybe they're working on TNRi now. As to why the different countries, different/no apps, I'm not sure the reasoning behind that, but Yamaha is a giant corporation so it may be legally related or for tracking purposes

  • It's "Tenori Monday" tonight in the USA - online Jams
( too bad the app can't work worldwide - that's limited by Game Center? but it's in 3 regions? now. )

  • it doesn't have MIDI or OSC out, does it?

  • @Phil999:

    MIDI works great!

  • thanks, good to hear.

  • Is THAT why it's never in the Chinese iTunes store? Because of Yamaha?
    I've always wondered....

  • @jackfancy Yamaha does their apps strangely - note the "- US" moniker on the US versions - it's a separate app from the others, which breaks GameCenter connectivity as DJFranzK mentioned earlier. I know that differing tax laws can be a reason for apps to be offered in certain countries - only Yamaha knows why they have released things the way they have.

  • How does Aurora and TNRi compare to each other? Am I right in thinking that TNRi is more geared towards live performance?

  • Also, does TNRi support background audio?

  • Can anyone comment on the midi features of either of the Tenori-On apps? My previous impression was that neither of them could be used as midi sequencers, but it appears I was incorrect; however, the reviews suggest that midi is maybe not working (well) with them. I've always wanted the hardware but cannot justify the cost, and don't care about the internal sounds, but for external sequencing it seems like it could be a great creative tool.

  • Depends on country version. US version does not do midi out

  • No midi out on the US version...really? Goddamn, why bother then? That is such a glaring limitation. Yamaha would already have my money despite the higher price of the Tenori-On apps if they included this, and it seems pointless to not include it. Why even make the app if it is going to be regionally crippled?

That's not true, it works fine with external hardware and apps. Each block number corresponds with a midi channel. Since ios7 it's also an IAA host so you can sequence apps that way or use apps that support midi thru.
