Big Problem with Forum
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE LOVE the AB Forum. BUT - there is a big prob with the "Discussion Titles". As a fairly new person to iOS music, I don't know about a lot of the apps that are out there. Soundtestroom has been a boon as to what to get - and have made many sales for Apple thru me (!!) - as has comments here. BUT - When I log to the forum and see a screaming title "HERE IT IS IS - PRERELASE OF NEW APP" - I get excited and jump to the thread.... Only to find out it is many months old... maybe even years.. It turns out when somebody adds a thought to an old post it pops up to the top of the list... very misleading!
Dunno if there is anything that can be done to identify an old post with new comments - could the original post date be added to the title or listing? Not a show stopper for sure but would be nice to know when something REALLY is a NEW hot item - not one that was hot last year...
Comments
1st world problem.
I agree it would be nice to have the list show original discussion date, at least for desktop format.
Strange, as the particular thread you mentioned IS a new post, and the app discussed (if you follow the link to the video) is brand new...
@seachord I agree that some sort of dating would be preferable, but your own title is pretty egregious click-bait as well I don't consider this, to be fair, A BIG PROBLEM!
This is old news.
And............if you are new to this stuff..................the date is irrelevant and it is new to you anyway?
Sounds like a win win
You are actually a lucky person at this point.
I agree with @hmtx's agreement. And both @Coloobar's and @JohnnyGoodyear's assessments.
Relieved to find out the BIG PROBLEM wasn't me this time
So what you're saying is that you want a 'initially posted at' thing in there?
basically, yes.
in the subtitle include:
Started by "@user" on "12/09/2012" and latest post "3:15" by "@otheruser"
Edit: BTW, this is not at all a "big problem" to me, but just a little something nice if it is easy to implement. Many thanks to the AB team for hosting this space for all of us
What's old is new.
I'd call it a minor annoyance

^ +1 @ all of that, including the edit.
I like the "7 [x] ago" format you see here and there too where it changes dynamically from "N days ago" to "N months ago" to "N years ago" depending on the original post's age. Not sure if there's a Vanilla plugin that would do that automatically.
http://vanillaforums.org/addon/discussionorigin-plugin and http://vanillaforums.org/addon/timeago-plugin perhaps? Never tried either.
If easy to add @Sebastian as an additional piece of HTML or whatever - could be useful yes. And, yes, I'm reading this too because I thought there was a BIG PROBLEM (no offense intended to the OP). But it isn't really - just something that happens from time to time and, a little, like an OP date tag added, could go a long way to it being a really small problem in the future. :-D
Eh. Never has bothered me. Sometimes I click on something that turns out to be less useful than the title suggests.
Done!
Done
Well done.
:-)
Now you got me paranoid - was that meant to be an empty comment, @KING777?
I also updated to the newest Vanilla forum software 'cos they're not doing security updates for the version we had any more, and I'm on the lookout for glitches.
I'm trying to insert a smiley. ??
Sorted
8O
Works for me ;-)
Hey @Michael, as the thread titles are now longer by default, you may want to abbreviate the names of the months.
Just an idea..
And cake also please. Elegant little ones perhaps.
While we are discussing cake, I'd love to see those black thread category boxes justified over to the right, so they all line up under the stars.
...so sorry. I feel evil for asking for anything else. But once you see it you can't unsee it.
Cake and more cake. Mmm..
Added: it's cool now, moving those "black thread category boxes" has lined it back up again, month length is cool.
I'm leaving this for tonight. Weird things happening. Guess @Michael is still on it.
What weird things? I've actually gone back to work on Masterpiece
