Big Problem with Mixtikl 6 Update
I just updated this app and didn't even open it but subsequently any attempt I made to copy something (AS, Twisted Wave etc etc) opened Mixtikl 6 and started playing. When closed it then crashed the app I was trying to paste to (Auria etc).
Deleted Mixtikl and data therein, rebooted, and then all was normal again. So Mixtikl data probably lost. Not much of an issue for me, but if it MIGHT be an issue for you, do consider your options before updating etc etc.
Always have considered this a weird-ass app
Comments
Hahaha. With you there, it's kind of a neat midi sequencer if you take the time to figure out what the hell its doing. Or some of what it's doing.
By luck/accident/whatever this was one of the very first apps I ever had. And I liked it but imagined that all apps were similarly, erm, weird-ass. I have always considered the developers to probably be members of an altogether different planetary group
I don't know if this is the fault of Mixtikl and could be an issue with app updating somehow corrupting the iOS device.
Maybe. Seemed very Mixtikl specific, but will steal ten minutes this morning and give it another run. Will report back etc.
Probably the same one planet SunVox is in.
I think for ease of demarcation and good old-fashioned judgement I'm going to begin assigning apps (if not developers) to arbitrarily-designated star-systems of my choosing. Some being 'in sight' or 'navigable' through to the completely 'out there'....
@JohnnyGoodyear
I had a clever set of emojis to respond with, but they don't work here!
Now I want to use another one... AAARRRRGH!
Just tested this, same thing happens for me too, Mixtikl wanted to launch after audiocopying something in audioshare
The other slap in the face is that according to Mixtikl and Noatkl notes it's the last update and you have to buy the apps again to get Mixtkl 3 and Noatkl 7, essentially the same apps. So does that mean we are stuck with this bug unless we buy the new versions?
They call it the "full grade " model basically a subscription really since after a while the apps will break as the OS upgrades and to continue using them again you have to pay full price again for effectively the same apps with a few improvements....not happy about this.
I would certainly drift away from iOS if all apps started doing that. Raise the base cost of an app which gets more complex, add in app purchases for advanced new features but don't have subscription models, that sucks.
Has anyone bought the new versions of Mixtikl or Noatikl ?
I'm curious as to what the real world differences are.
i have both, in both versions. Never ran in any kind of similar problem, with whatever version. Sorry to hear it's different for you guys, sounds really bad. I am especially really happy with Noatikl 3, thought it alright to pay for it again, but I also mainly work with it, and get lots of joy by its fine "generations". Mixtikl I never really warmed up to so much. Long story short: No (unwanted) weirdities ever with any of those versions, iPhone5s, IpadAir, Ipad Air2, ios 7-9 ( 9.1.2 at the time). Cheers, t
I also have them all, in both old and new versions. Haven't had any issues.
I find these apps interesting, though I haven't invested the time they would need. I bought them mainly for two reasons: when I'm all out of ideas I start fiddle with these ones, and often something comes out that triggers my imagination again. Never have any of those things that actually re-triggered me ended up in the final result, but they have still served a purpose.
The second reason I bought them, both old and new, is because the apps are cleverly built by a small independent team. Figured they could do with some support, and that particular day I hadn't bought any apps at all, anyways.
I've just upgraded to Noatikl 3 and I'm glad I did. There's some really interesting things going on there - from an ambient generative music, point of view.
Seem relatively bug-free?
@JohnnyGoodyear: I bought Noatikl3 the day it arrived. No problems with it whatsoever, it's all good. You never know, though, with a different setup... (I never had any of the weirdities happening before, either, be it with Noatikl or Mixtikl..).
Thanks. Have dived back in, mainly because I enjoyed stumbling around with Mixtikl when I was just an iOS nipper. After a quick look I remember just how confused I was then It's interesting, I am a lot more experienced with apps now, but suspect I have less patience these days for those that are not immediately intuitive....this is going to take that long slow rainy afternoon to make sense of I fancy....
I'd say so (so far), a couple of crashes, but nothing too drastic.
Yes, it's probably fair to say it's a bit cryptic in terms of navigating around it. I've found some of the templates (in V3) to be very good, but it takes time to figure out how to find things. The UI is far from flash, but I don't mind that as the generative 'engine' is the primary thing, for me.
Having been involved in creating ambient music for years, this is giving me some fresh ideas.
A good endorsement. Thank you.
