The Bad News

Hey everyone, Robin and I finished another song. She did nearly all the production in gadget (her favorite). I mixed it all on my pc and added junk drums by banging on our heating ducts and creating a drum kit in nanostudio (my favorite). Anywho, hope you enjoy.

@otem_rellik Like it a lot. Beautiful and quirky. A good balance. From this chair the lead vocal could stand to be a little more up front in the mix.

  • It is indded beautiful and quirky. Vocal is okay for me in a lot of it, but for instance around 1:40 that whole verse it's way too low. I'm playing it over the small deck in our living room, and having to turn it up to where the music is bothering me, just to hear her voice, which I think is the featured part of the music.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys! I need to listen on some different speakers but I think you are right about the vocals coming up in the mix.

I think the track is awesome. Have to agree that her spectacular ethereal vocals could defintely benefit from a bit of side chaining. Bring that lady to up to the front row. Kudos on a great piece regardless though. Having another listen now.

  • Wow that is satisfying. Great work.

  • Really classy. Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow from me too!
    incredible good work....

  • Thanks for the listens and words!

  • I love it. I'd be willing to bet that the vocal level is just fine but the bass needs to come down 3-6db to make room for it. That and maybe using EQ to scoop some room out of the electric piano and stuff that's in the same range as the lower part of the vocals.

  • Any plans to release that sample set on the NS forums? Sounds really fun. A great reminder to me of how easy it to do that sort of thing in NS.

  • It is good work. They have a thing going on there.

  • Nicely done ! :)

  • What a beautiful track. I love that first chorus melody and entrance. What I love about iOS music production is how it is similar to the old days of cassette PortaStudios- where experimentation and the willingness to not be so precious with everything is common- but with the 21st century slant of it being done on equipment that is still user friendly BUT has a huge jump up in audio fidelity.

That way when gold is found among the experiments they can be used in a full on pro quality production. I don't know if that was the case here with "The Bad News" or not but that cool little Rhodesey figure with the other key bits woven in and out doesn't strike me as something that was written on manuscript paper and then recorded. Gadget is a great tool and she has certainly used it to great effect here...
