Problems uploading to Dropbox via Audioshare

I'm getting a lot of error messages, after Dopbox uploads are aborted via Audioshare - probably 75% of attempts to upload files are crashing out. I'm using the previous version of Audioshare, and it's only happened over the last few days. Anyone else having issues?

  • No science here, but I have the updated version and not having problems. When I have had in the past (and I did) I presumed it was time-out issues via my internet connection etc. Maybe not...

  • No problem here. Using latest version of AS...

  • Thanks for the replies - just bombed out again, message says:

    Dropbox
The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain Error - 1005.)

  • is your wifi connection ok?

@monzo - setting the wifi channel in your modem to a different channel might improve your wifi connection. My advice is channel 4.

  • Problems here too....but only because my DB account is at 99.9999% full.

  • haha, that was my first thought, but I guessed monzo is smart enough to figure that one out himself. I could be wrong with that assumption...:)

  • Thanks, no plenty of space left :) Just tried again, without changing anything, and the files uploaded fine. Weird.

  • @monzo I have been back and read your file again carefully and the only logical conclusion is that you live in some kind of anti-matter continuum of parodic uncertainty as regards things that require electrical constancy. Good luck etc.

I live in the middle of Wales, they still consider electricity to be a form of witchcraft here...

  • Tried to upload some 20 minute recordings from vinyl. only a few files made it.

  • Anyone having problems with Cubasis Dropbox upload? I used to be able to click sign in when I first chose to share to Dropbox from Cubasis and my email and password were already there but now I have to keep entering my email and password, even though it says sign in and link.

  • Maybe the Dropbox servers are being glitchy and disrupting longer uploads.

  • I had that error message at the weekend. After a while it started working again, but bizarrely anything that I now upload to Dropbox from Aufioshare will not sync to my PC. I double-checked my sync settings and the PC is set to sync everything (I even tried unlinking and relinking the relevant folders) but no dice. The files are there on the Dropbox website, but they won't sync. I'm guessing the issue is more likely to be with Dropbox than Audioshare.

I've had similar, non-music/boring work-related, Dropbox events recently. Also presume it is at the DB end...

  • Could be, seems to happen more with larger files. I was wondering if it was an API issue as I'm using an older version of Dropbox, but then I guess it wouldn't work at all.

hey @richardyot and @JohnnyGoodyear, I found a dropbox article which might help with the not syncing issue. The issue could of course also be a bug which isn't described in the article. Perhaps its a bit too technical to read.

  • @Marcel thanks! That link solved my problem, it's basically because my PC doesn't like the brackets that Audioshare puts in the file names.

    BTW, where have you been?

Thanks Marcel, as a web dev I'm pretty careful with filenames though so this isn't the issue in my case. I'm thinking either the iPad has lost the connection, or just a glitch with the Dropbox server.

Hey @richardyot, thanks for asking. I am just not that active anymore on this forum the past few weeks. The reason is that I haven't been recording music these past few weeks. The reason for that is not completely clear. Partly because : just not very creative in composing new compositions. ( I do play guitar of course.) Partly because I bought a not iPad orientated multi pedal with which I play a lot. (the Boss GT-100 multi fx pedal). Partly because I have a beep in my ear and because of that I am using less my headphone when making music, I think the headphone is not good for my ears, so I want to diminish usage of it. And my workflow was a lot with headphone and iPad. And partly because my last composition - which was very good if I may say that myself (Close Your Eyes and See) - makes me feel a bit .... hmmm....can't top that, a sort of writers block perhaps.
So it is a cluster of reasons. Might change though.

  • Hey everyone. I think I get user support mails every week of dropbox or soundcloud upload issues in AudioShare. As far as I know, this is due to glitches on their servers.

Though, in the last AudioShare update, I improved dropbox uploading for large files, by using their API for chunked file upload to avoid time-out issues on slow connections. So it should work better for large files now.

Also note that upload/download only works while AudioShare is running in foreground, so you should not background it until it has finished uploading!

  • @Marcel, glad to hear you're enjoying your new gear - and you're welcome back to SOTMC any time you're ready!

@j_liljedahl would it be possible at some time to give us the option of not using brackets in the file names (for example when you have duplicate file names to just have numbers and no brackets appended), that would solve sync problems with Windows.

Ah great thanks, sounds like it'd be a good idea for me to update to the latest version.

I didn't know that, does Windows not allow brackets (parenthesis) in filenames in general, or is it Dropbox on Windows that has issues with it?

  • I think it's Windows.
