How do you create own/ user kits in Patterning?

I am able to import my own sounds etc from Audioshare- but where are the user kits? Is there a blank template somewhere? Or are you to edit an existing pattern then 'save as' to make it your own?- or what's the story?
Cheers

First, set up a empty new song file and tempo under 'File' section

Then, go and press the 'Pattern', choose right hand side wave graph

Then, import you audio file from Audioshare

Them, go to the 'Drum Kit' menu, pressing the 'save as' a new drum kit, name its title and author. Your own drum kit will be listed.

Finally double tap the Drum Kit symbol to decorate.

You also need to save your song file for your drum patterns

  • Myself I'm more into pattern creation than in drum sounds/samples. I actually neglect all those sample kits and use Patterning as a MIDI sequencer. Although certain sample sounds may be useful for monitoring or even recording.

Just an observation. Not relevant to the discussion.

I know, You told us for the second or thid time. I didn't got chance or luck for great sequences. I used one or twince to drive StepPolyArp. will do more, thank you.

well it's a bit complicated because so far Patterning only can output single note events for each of the 8 tracks. But it can also output 'coarse tune automation' for each track which can be picked up at the pitch output of a MIDI-CV interface. The velocity output is another option.

Definitely a different approach with different destinations. I don't have StepPolyArp, sorry. But just out of curiosity, why use two sequencers? Surely a good idea, but certainly complicated on iPad.

That's just Captain Kaikoo. He's a complicated dude.

    @JohnnyGoodYear

StepPolyArp is an arp which doesn't do a step sequencer do.

Patterning is a timeline based sequencer if you treat it as a sequencer, it gives which key you command it to send to StepPolyArp keyboard. So you creat a more complex rhythm. A similar synth app example is zMors Synth, it got both arpeggiator and sequencer.

  • I see, thanks. Missed the 'Arp' part in StepPolyArp.

And good idea to use an arpeggiator after a sequencer.

  • Great- thanks for your help-> @Kaikoo said:

Great- thanks for your help, l'm just about there. A few more questions if I may? Import from Audioshare but no export option?- only to Dropbox- is this correct? Plus, is it possible to name your patterns?
    Thanks

    Yes, to Dropbox only.

Yes, when you save it, use 'save as' to rename your Drum Kit plus your author name.

  • Great- thanks again- l am though beside myself with complete brain melt - I am starting to think that I may in fact be cursed with this app. I am trying to delete the junk in pattern A that I have been experimenting with. I press 'clear' all it seems to do is clear one drum at a time. I then try to copy a blank pattern into A- so I go to B, press copy (no indication is given that copy is engaged?)- nevertheless I return to A - press paste........ nothing doing?! I try to randomly copy and paste from A to C to D to F........ nothing doing again. I keep pressing the little question mark in the hope that it will say 'to delete pattern press....' but it never does. I try the whole lot again.... over and over...... But the same thing (nothing) keeps happening.

iElectribe iphone is a excellent choice for playing drums. I am considering it great without so much hassle with copy paste file. Playing it on iPad should be nice!

  • I find that importing Apple Loops files (.caf) directly from iCloud Drive into Patterning works the best for me.

I am not a big fan of iElectribe myself. I have a copy and find it a bit limiting... though I am aware that many people are fans of it. I am much more interested in getting to grips with Patterning, and like I was saying, l have tried everything I could think of to copy and paste/ delete etc. It just doesn't seem to be happening:~ so any help would be appreciated. I am sure that it wouldn't be too much of a hassle once I actually knew how to do it. I would RTFM if there was a FM to read.... but there isn't.

Same here, I primarily use Patterning to drive my Nord Drum 2, but most of the time I also keep Patterning's sounds in the mix. Like that I end up creating pretty complex beats, especially when Pattering is processed thru some fx, like WOW and Turnado. I'm planning to add a bunch of custom samples to Patterning though, wanna hear how weirder type of samples (like household objects, glitches, noises, synths, etc.) sound when sequenced.

  • Anyone an advanced maker of kits? I would love to start share mine, with some art attached like the user kits. I take great joy in sculpting sounds.

Right OK I know what you are thinking........ and I probably would be thinking the same to be honest. But for sone reason- after switching the iPad off and on and coming back to it again.. it seems to be working now in the way I described and the way that it should......... still can't quite understand why it wouldn't work before....... ahem....... so you can stop rolling your eyes now, and all the rest of it!

For sure, but with purchased samples of mostly vintage drum machines, some ARP basses and classic synths. Unfortunately, not good for sharing purposes as I have a bit of a conscience about these things in my older age.

What kind of kits are you making?
  • Right now I am building sounds for a kit in Patterning from various small pops and clicks and running them through my homemade effect pedals. Sounds like subtle electricity.

This I would like to hear.

Has anyone set up a bunch of scale kits for sequencing? I just made a C major one and now i want to make like a hundred more.

Also, I wish Patterning separated user projects from demo ones.

  • A related question: When I delete a number of the admittedly shitty sounding kits pre-installed kits in pattern (c'mon, you know it's true) the memory use barely goes down, but when I install a new kit, the amount heads up and away.
    Why?
