GADGET question...

I am really tempted by Gadget, but I am not sure about its MIDI compatibility with external gear.

Can you sequence it with an external controller/sequencer?.....or is it a closed system?
CC assign like other Korg gear? On/off with external controller?
What are the 2 extensions, samples?
Thanks.

You can use many external arps and sequencers to drive it. Making sure the tool can command the start/stop playhead of Gadget. That's it.

Abu is a slicer, loop length should be within 5 seconds. Bilbao is a sampler, you can have 10 seconds loop inserted into it.

In addition, you need to check your external sequencer not to double sending midi notes.

Phaedra, midiSTEPs, Fugue Machine, Arpist are my best sequencers on Gadget! These 4 are highly recommended by my all apps experience!

Check out Ivory Piano from Module, this is best time to have Ivory. Module and iM1 can be feeded into Gadget.

midiLFOs is easiest way to send cc data to Gadget, or use hand to draw modulation in Gadget.

I think Phaedra is my best on Gadget. It can send 2 sets of cc data. you hand draw it on Phaedra. It is so quick.

Btw, 'midisequencer' app is a nice choice for Gadget too.

They all run nicely on Air2 iOS 9.1 .

Am I right in thinking you can only control 1 Gadget at a time though?

I mean you can't externally sequence 4 Gadgets simultaneously?

    Could be wrong though.

  • Thanks @Kaikoo, really great info, don't know few of those apps like Phaedra, etc....will check that one out...but must cool it with €€€s....
TC data and TC-11 was on my shopping list too....

Been playing with Gadget, it is great, had no idea....really like it. Got the two as well.Abu &co.

I am hoping to use BeatStep Pro with it, to sequence....
    Cheers

Ya, one gadget instrument at a time!

However, By using Phaedra, you can control four sequencers at same time! Normally one part higher notes, one part baseline. But you can use four tracks' cc, which means 8 parts of cc data. That is a lot of controls. Hand drawing is really quick. There is no other apps can be in such quick way to control 8 parts of Gadget cc data.

  • @SpookyZoo , just gave it a spin with BeatStepPro, controlling an active synth, absolutely flawless.

YES, one synth at a time, Gadget does not see midi channels, only internal/external sync.

What is special about this setup is that you can make a sequence on BSP and listen to it playing the Gadget synth.
If it sounds good, hit record in Gadget and the sequence will be recorded in Gadget.
Then you can erase that sequence from BSP and make another one and "dub" over it.

The same sequence can be played/recorded in any other Gadget synth. And BSP can run it >>, <<, <>, random and from 1/4 to 1/32 speed. Or change octaves...
Actually it is better this way for my use.

And finally there is a drum machine in Gadget that listens and plays sequence from BSPs drum sequencer

support for mulitple external midi channels is such a no brainer. It's really beyond me, why it's not supported. Way to cap your potential Korg. Guess it's good news for a the sales statistics of a lot of other apps though.

How well does sync work with something like cubasis/auria?
