SampleTank Miroslav vs. iSymphonic Orchestra

I'm trying to make a decision which of these to get. Any advice would be appreciated!

Comments

  • At the current price I would favour isymphonic as well.

  • +1. I picked up iSymphonic yesterday, and the quality is really amazing. And at this price! That said I own Miroslav, picked up on sale earlier this year, and I agree it's sound can leave a bit to be desired.
However, the iSymphonic is a more limited sound set, 25 sounds in the base package, with several iap packs available. (Which I'm guessing are also at a reduced cost right now). Most of the base sounds are geared toward ensemble strings, and a smattering of brass. Miroslavs set has a wider range of instruments. Look at crude bytes and IKs sites and have a look at what's included - if you're in an either/or buying situation you may want know that.

  • depends of what you want or need, if you want solo instruments, then Miroslav, if you want great sounding string ensembles, iSymphonic (+ other instruments as iap)

  • ISymphonic sounds brighter & louder than IK Multimedia. If you have the spare pennies, get iSymphonic now, while it's on special. I was a little disappointed with SampleTanks version. But at the time, SampleTank version was a lot cheaper, than when Crude Byte first bought it out.

  • iSymphonic does sound brighter and louder, but even at the sale price it is still 75 EUR for the whole thing as opposed to 20 or 10 for Miroslav.

  • Agreed. But, you could treat yourself, now & again to a pack. Same as I do for Synmaster, & other apps. Especially, when there is a lull in app releases, to feed the addiction. Lol

  • ISymphonic with at least the IAP that gives you some horns etc as well = top package.

  • I can only agree 100% with all these comments. I have see-sawed between the two for a few months but didn't really want to commit to IK Sampletank fully just for the sake of getting decent orchestral/symphonic sounds. On the other hand ISymphonic was mightily expensive. Glad I waited as downloaded ISymphonic yesterday and followed with the Pro pack today, mainly for the horns and baroque ensembles. Really authentic sounds. My app budget now blown but well worth it.

  • Thanks for everybody's advice. I got iSymphonic Orchestra now. I only had a €15 card, so no IAPs yet. I really wanted to save up for Auria Pro... Now I hope it won't be out that soon.

  • Crudebytes bundle is on sale as well. I paid full price for iSymphonic, which = the current bundle sales price. So I got that whole bundle for free yesterday (iSymphonic is in there obviously, as well as Oriental Strings, CMP Piano & iCathedral). Can't beat a price like that! :)

Thanks for the tip. I just checked and got the deal too. I didn't pay full price, but got iSymphonic maybe $10 off a while back. I still got the rest of the bundle free.

  • i got the iSymphonic base app which is great and am now trying to get a feel for the various iap. Is anyone able to get these little play buttons working on anything? https://www.crudebyte.com/isymphonic-orchestra/sounds/#soundsets

So after fiddling with iSymphonic and ChordPolypad on both iPhone 6 and iPad mini 4 I found there's a very annoying bug in the iPhone version. When using a midi controller it will play some sort of string sound on top of the selected preset, no matter which preset or which midi channel I select. The sound definitely comes from this app and not CCP. Also when I select a different midi channel in iSO than the one the controller is sending on, the notes still play that stringy sound without the keys giving any representation that there's something happening. Weird that they didn't find that one yet. Probably most people are using it on iPads. It's pretty useless in that state to me. Did anybody else notice that? Also some of the samples have a lot of background noise going on. Not the quality I expected...

I think they're just icons not buttons. you'll find demos for all the sound packs on the sound testroom site

I had some really weird glitches as well on the iPad. actually so many, I reinstalled the app

  • Maybe I should try a reinstall as well. I sent a bug report to the devs. I'll report back if they reply. It's pretty weird though, because it means that string layer is active at all times in all presets.

  • I actually had a brass layer stuck, so even strings only programs had brass, but it seems to behave now after reinstall

  • I'm reinstalling now.

Reinstall did the trick. Problem disappeared. Thanks for the pro-tip :-).
Most of the sounds are quite good quality. Where I noticed the noise was mainly in the lower region of a staccato preset, I think. Otherwise it's pretty good overall.
