  • Thanks Sir Doug. I did, finally, buy iSymphonic, but am not convinced about Vento. A little fox-hunting/Downton Abbey for my taste. Or maybe at 11.99, having just spent 14.99 to get my place at the table, I am a little circumspect about the next part of my investment.

Anyone: If you could/had to buy ONE of the IAPs....which one?

Sir Doug: In other, video-related matters, it looks as though you have a water-color filter or similar on once you zoom in on cubasis in this vid. Very impressionistic :)

After buying the base app a few days ago I got the 'Arpa' IAP and am very very happy with it.  Arpa was the first one that really caught my eye with the harp and harpsichord.  I think it sounds lovely overall (i just LOVE this app) but some of the lower harp notes are maybe a bit buzzy for purists.  then again, not sure if real harp notes even go that low so maybe it is a non issue (?).   Anywho, i am layering glitchy beaty stuff on it though so it doesnt really matter to me.    next up will be the pro pack to get the french horns and baroque sounds.  I hope more big sweet libraries like this come to iOS in the near future.  Anywho an Arpa vid is here...

Thanks for the vid Doug, very nice!  I am often hesitant about solo wind instruments on iOS as they always sounds kind of 'Sound Canvasy' to me but this is wonderful.  Wish I had your playing chops!  I couldn't find an Arpa vid in the room, is there one?

I like them all; I'm thinking that the Canto pack may suite you.  That's the one with the choirs.

I did a YouTube Arpa demo back in June, if you want to check it out.

  • They all sound better than SampleTanks Add on. But try playing them all together on the same channel. For example full strings, or violins on channel 1?
  • The only trouble with SamplTank, is that the midi can be on & off for receiving the midi

Thanks for the tip/suggestion Mister Toz. I am going to haul out the big electric piano and hook it up in honor of it all. We'll see :)

  • I have all packs and I love all of them. They are really high quality. But with all orchestra
instruments/sections you have to keep in mind that they USUALLY don't play two notes
at the same time - just like a singer usually doesn't sing two notes at the same time.
So you have to be careful with overlapping notes. And it helps if you know the natural
range of an instrument/voice.This doesn't matter with the Split-Orchestra-Presets because
they are layed out in a "natural" way.For me it's a great app with great sounds.

The base app certainly sounds rich and lovely, but I'm having a hell of a time (read: I can't make it work yet) getting it to record in Cubasis or Auria....

Later Edit: Did make it work/record into Auria. Does sound lovely...
  • The best way to use all these packs, and indeed any orchestral sampling, is to stay within the real range of the instrument your using

Did finally take some cans back to the market and scared up enough to buy the Canto pack for iSymphonic. Sumptuous and thoroughly lovely. A very good nudge on your part, so thanks for that. Although I expect all of my upcoming SOTMCs to hint at having found a God I've yet to discover etc.
