Anyone know if N-Track does midi recording

Specifically, does n-track record interapp or audiobus routed midi. I know it will play midi using external apps and record using an external keyboard, but if I strap on an iOS midi controller will it record that? Something like Chordpolypad or Gesturement.

I don't have it handy right now, but I think it will. I will check later for you.

Edit: Just check it and it does record midi from external apps and external midi keyboard. Running on newest iOS 9.1 on iPhone 5.
  • but not from another midi controller or app hosted on the same phone?
  • I does get midi from controllers on the same phone. I used TB MIDI Stuff to play an on-board instrument in N-Track Pro and recorded it in N-Track Pro.
  • thank god. now i can ditch Beatmaker and 800mb of useful app but awkward interface.

Ya nTrack automatically makes a midi track on any midi capable IAA or Audiobus instrument that I record in there. Nice Piano roll for altering notes around, and switching instruments that play the midi part. I'm no midi expert, but it's been useful for me many times. It's a shame to me that it's not a well liked DAW here, I still like it better than the others. Maybe Auria Pro will change my mind.

If only I had an iPad :'(

  • Does it record midi cc too?

  • N track works on a iPhone 6s also. Me thinks?

I seriously considered N-track (and, to a lesser extent Meteor) as my primary iDAW, back when both Cubasis and Auria were mere babes in the woods. On Youtube tutorial paper, N-track stacked up, but the lack of consistently enthusiastic reviews was a big caution flag for me. Lots of "almost there" type of comments at the time, IIRC ...

N-Track, to my way of working, seems to have a longer learning curve. Each time I use it I realize how powerful it is, but something keeps me from making it my main DAW on iOS.

    @Halftone:

If no one chimes in first, I will check if it records the CCs when I get a chance.
  • I know in the piano roll window it has a section where you can draw velocity and volume levels if you want. It shows the initial levels, so I guess it records the cc's.
  • Its a powerful DAW, but its riddled with bugs.Could never get it to work right.
  • @djjuniorpops when was the last time you tried it? Since the last update, my n-Track has been more glitch proof than Cubasis or Auria, at least for my usage. I can go 10 or more tracks of audio and midi with effects and no hiccups.
  • @NoiseHorse , tried it today and deleted it, would give it a go again.

Tried it last night and it does record the CCs. I used TB Stuff Midi again to test.

I find that it is more stable then it used to be, but I don't use it a ton so I haven't put it through much testing. I tend to use Gadget or Cubasis to compose, and Auria or Ableton to arrange a song.

  • I reinstall and there is a bug which I reported since this app came out and to date it's still there. If you loop a audio track and let that loop track play for some time you would notice that the audio cur our.
I also don't like when you add a instrument it add a track for the instrument and a track for the midi.
