Auria recording basics?

I use Auria in a very basic manner. I've always seemed to stumble around when trying to record INTO Auria from a a synth or other app. I know you begin by going to mixer, and selecting an effect from the list of available apps.  From there I could use some helps with the "order of operation" as I generally don't get the recording.  Say I wanted to bring in (i.e. record) a track from Animoog - what would the steps be?

  • These are the kind of 'tutorials' I'd love to see too, freezing IAA-Midi track into Audio so that the IAA synth could be used on another track. (for overdubbing iMini as an example). Then again maybe the Fabfilter Twin 2 can replace many of the other iOS synths. But then it would be a matter of 'freezing' an Auria Midi-Track into AudioTrack.

My understanding is that with IAA you need to record it (then you can just move the recording to another track) but with Auria internal plugins you can likely freeze them quicker without having to play back in realtime.

Right now I am trying to figure out the transients and audio warping.
  • There's several ways to do it now, you can record as audio or as MIDI so it depends.

If you want to record an IAA instrument as audio you need to press and hold on the record-enable button and select "record effects" from the menu.

Alternatively you can record audio in via Audiobus.

If you want to record an IAA instrument as MIDI then add it as a MIDI instrument first.

Also in the Process menu there is a new "Bounce In Place" option that will convert any MIDI tracks to audio - it's the same as freezing except it's permanent.
  • @AudioGus I'm thinking more in the lines of midi-sequencing IAA-Instruments and 'freezing/saving' the audio. IAA-Generators & AB-Sources will need to be recorded as audio anyways.(ie. they need two tacks, one for the midi and one track for audio for the recorded output).

So the question is really, how does Auria handle freezing of tracks that contain Midi/IAA-Instrument? (In Cubasis the result is audio-wave that can also be saved for later use).

Is there a user-guide/manual for Auria Pro?
  • You can either freeze a MIDI track, or bounce it in place. The second option is permanent, the first can be reverted.
  • @richardyot Thanks, so the 'bounce in place' replaces the midi-track with clean rendered audio-track with all the effects baked in?(meaning the 'new' track has zero effects once bounced in place since they are already baked-in).

Dare I ask if there is a 'bounce/render selected track to a new track' feature?

That's right, Bounce in Place will take any MIDI or audio track and convert it to a WAV and remove the effects from the Channel Strip.

If you want to bounce to a new track and keep the original you have to use use Mixdown --> Import As New Track.
  • @richardyot Sorry for asking so much, but is the mix-down also available for single tracks without the need to mute/solo selected channels?. I'm thinking of a 'render selected track(s) to audio' type of feature.

No, there is only the Bounce Track in Place option, which is destructive. If you want to preserve the original you have to solo + mixdown.

    :)
  • @richardyot last question (for now). Is it possible to save the 'frozen' track as a *.wav file so it can be used later when the track is unfrozen?

I'm thinking of this feature because it would make 'loop/sample-creation' a lot easier.
  • @Samu I guess you could mix it down or fish around for the frozen track's rendered WAV in the project folder, not something I've ever thought of trying.

This @ thing in the forum is super buggy...

    @AlterEgo_UK Thanks for the manual-link

@richardyot Thanks for all the answers.
