Auria 101: Getting Started

For the person who never used Auria till now.

What is the best resource (website / link)for the basic functions and use?

I realize much is self explanatory yet some things would be easier pointed out.

For instance.

If you record a beat via Audiobus into Auria, what is the quickest way to set up a 1 bar loop of that piece so you can move on to next part while the loop continues to play?

Also, is the freeze function the same as Cubasis?

Thanks for any help.

I waited to Auria had MIDI - now I wish I took time to learn it earlier.......................

  • Probably the Lynda tutorials, although I assume they're not for pro yet. I'm booked solid today but tomorrow I'm going to make a video, so if you want anything specific tell me. I'm sure others will have them too, and @richardyot posted some excellent illustrated screenshots in another thread here that do a lot of explaining.

  • @mrufino1 Look forward to this. Very neighborly of you neighbor.
  • I listened to the whole manual as an audiobook last night using voicedream app

  • Great idea, love this thread!
I think a video on how to set up Auria would be great! There are so many options in the Settings menu, for monitoring, recording, audioBus etc...would love to see a simple getting Auria setup for recording video...thanks in advance!

  • I think that this is a related item to this thread -apologies if anyone disagrees. I mainly use a daw as a band in a box for recording drums, then adding tracks from playing my guitar plus keyboards and some other instrument sounds if I cannot play them myself. Now I no longer play live in the group (retired!!) this is sufficient enough for myself and colleague to solo over to produce some worthwhile output to amuse ourselves.
I have graduated from GarageBand to Cubasis and now read and cast envious eyes over Auria but ........
Can anyone in a nutshell tell me what advantages, if any, Auria has over Cubasis for my level of music production as I develop into perhaps using more sounds, apps etc. over time? Or, is Auria a bit of overkill for my level?
I am not knocking Auria -price is not an issue either,  and it seems a fantastic product. I like Cubasis and am just starting to get into the midi aspects etc. I am just weighing up the advantages or otherwise of learning a new daw in which I probably won't make use or sense of all the wow features once the hype has settled down.
I am leaning towards sticking but could be convinced !
  • I have Cubasis too and Auria 2.0. I personally used Cubasis the mostly due to midi. For all my mixing and finalizing all went into Auria. They are both amazing DAWS. But right now, Auria Pro has raised the bar beyond everything IMHO. With midi, synths and sampler, it will rule DAW land for a long time. But this is good for us all, all other DAWs will soon catch up and we'll all have choices.

  • @Jomodu Auria offers superior sound processing via the included channel strip and plugins. There are also many IAP plugins that will take any mixing task way beyond what Cubasis can achieve, including desktop-class compressors, delays, saturators, EQs, filters etc.

It's basically much more fully featured than Cubasis, right down to the routing options. It's also more complex and harder to learn as a result, and potentially expensive due to the IAPs.
  • Just a quick question, how do I restore my purchases from Auria to Auria Pro, and before anyone says press restore purchases, I already did that.

I have the updated Auria installed and restored my purchases on that no problem, but when I try and do that with a clean install of Auria Pro nothing restores, any suggestions please
  • @richardyot.....thanks for your comments much appreciated.
  • Doug, I think Rim has just posted the steps.
He said to first backup all your projects.
    Delete Auria.
Download Auria again from App store
Now upgrade to Auria Pro. If you did that already
Then now try the restore option and hopefully that'll do it.

You need both versions installed and up-to-date, then in Auria Pro go to the main settings page and on the bottom right you will find a button labelled "transfer purchases from Auria".

If you have a lot of purchases then it might take a few attempts, the process crashed for me several times but eventually all the IAPs and downloads were transferred. It's a good idea to have both apps loaded with empty projects to minimise CPU and RAM issues.
  • @Tones4Christ Your fix is actually for a different issue, that's for when the synth presets are missing I believe.

@richardyot is right on, I did this last night and everything is there. You have auria pro as its own app, correct? Then once your "old" auria is
Updated to 2.0, you go to pro as he said in the settings (not in the auria store). Then, once that's done, you can delete auria 2 and everything will still be there in pro.

    i've updated auria to pro.i can't access fabfilter synths.sorry .i'm sure you've already answered this a million times but i need help.thanks.
See answer above by @Tones4Christ - you might need to delete and reinstall. Make sure to back up any work first!
  • It's sorted, there is a TRANSFER PURCHASES FROM AURIA TO AURIA PRO switch, go to settings and its in the bottom right corner, I had both instances installed at the time, Auria and Pro, it all worked very smoothly

Personally, here is my suggestion or recommendation.

Sort of a side by side of basic song/track making of Auria vs.Cubasis.

I imagine, I am not alone in being new to Auria and wanting to just get a quick feel for the layout and get busy.

    -Making a loop.
    -Marker setting
    -midi  in/out settings
    -freezing tracks
-built instrument recording with f/x / without f/x
    -applying F/x to audio
    -applying F/x to midi
    -imprtin
  • How do you get the body of the FabFilter synths open?

As to where are the knobs and shit?

I can get names of presets in track edge, but where to open actual synth?
  • @RustiK excellent suggestion

Tap (fx) on top of a midi track in mixer view, in the channel strip top left in the instrument window select twin, right next tap the (e) to behold its beauty.
