GADGET missing 1st note when recording. (Fixed with 2.0 update?)

Gadget is missing the first note when recording. Does anybody have experience or a fix for this?

I believe I saw this mentioned a few months ago too but cannot find the post/thread.

Thanks in advance.

  • For anybody else interested in this, I found the post I was referencing.

    Thanks @Solador78

  • Samplr sometimes does this also

  • I've noticed the same thing recording loops from Genome and DrumStudio. Just curious where the time offset is being changed? Is it the app sending the midi data or some setting in Gadget somewhere?

  • I think you're just too fast with that note. You will probably find it at the end of the bar. If it is what I think it is.

With samplr it is a bug in the arp mode isn't it?

  • edited December 2015

No the note is not at the end of the bar.

The fix from Solador was sequencing from Bstep.

Even when adjusting the grid in Gadget to 1/64, sequencing outside of Gadget results in the 1st note not recording properly.

    Pita.

  • The bug in samplr is when using the slicer mode, if you record a hit on the first step it sometimes get delayed by a 16th note in the playback

When I sync thesys or fugue machine with gadget, I don't hear the first note, but it is recorded in gadget piano roll, certainly different issue though

On the other hand when I record thumbjam midi I get double notes, anybody have any clue ?

    Sorry for the OT

  • This is an 'issue' I personally have with many sequencers due to my somewhat imperfect timing :D

When I play to a count-in metronome I most of the time hit the first note too early before the recording really starts thus it's missing the first note. When recording in 'loop mode' I'm too eager to start playing so the once I think the loop is at the beginning I happily hit the notes only to find out it's at the end of the loop, arghhh!

Some sequencers offer pre-roll recording to capture the eager players and some offer option to delay the midi to compensate.

I'm thinking midi-delay settings could cure some of the missed first note-issues.

  • Personal timing..use metronome..be patient and train..

    Yepp!

The question is does the metronome 'tick' before or after the actual recording starts, some type of metronome sounds are easier to 'cue on' than others. My solution tends to be to lower the tempo when recording or alter the midi-delay to push notes forward by 2-3ms(I noticed this in Logic when my hits were recorded a little early).

Most of the time it's no real problems though.

  • In gadget and most other apps theres a count in

For the most part i dont use a metronome as i lay down a basic 4/4 before anything and jam onto that until i get the sounds i want..then i will record

  • I don't know. I've played instruments for 30+ years, have had lots of compliments on my sense of timing, yet I still have problems with the first note in gadget. Maybe you need to have quantized, robot-like, precision; that ain't me. Anyway, I solved the problem by long pressing the app icon and tapping the little x when it came up. ymmv.

  • @asnor, thanks, I tried your solution with all my apps, and all the issues have disappeared!

  • @busker amazing how well it works lol

Am applying it to the dog. And the teenager.

Looks like recent Gadget update fixed this issue according to Paul over on the 2.0 thread. I can't test right now but good to hear.

Also, they finally fixed the timing so it's easy to record on the first beat. I used to have a lot of trouble when recording drums with that first beat not being recorded when starting with a count it. It's spot on now and I also like all the small visual cues you now get, recording, hitting keys etc. VERY nice update.
