iPad Pro USB3 and Auria Pro

edited December 2015 in General App Discussion

Apparently the iPad Pro charge port is USB3 capable, which is good news if you want to use Auria Pro and it's new external drive feature right? Can Auria Pro record directly to the external drive?

Before the excitement gets outta hand, Auria Pro's external drive feature is only and exclusively for backing up and loading project files. Which is very exciting in and of itself but...

It is not for sample streaming or direct recording. Nothing real-time from what I have read.

  • Also, USB 3.0 is in the hardware for iPad Pro, but Apple haven't enabled this yet on the software side, so until they make some changes we will still get USB 2.0 speeds on iPad Pro.

I don't know if changes would also be needed on on the lightning cable or not.

  • Why would Apple do that, surely they are aware of the flak around not having a USB port, so to include the hardware and not support it sounds like madness to me!

Kinda what I figured, but thought I'd ask.

  • Off topic. What do you guys think are the chances that Auria Pro will be optimized for the IPad Pro?

  • @Kites, what do you mean by "optimized". Reports are that it works and looks just fine. You'd have to ask some specifics of those using it, and of Rim in Auria forum.

  • "It works" is different from optimized. For example, would there be room to customize the UI so that iPad pro could have 100mm faders in landscape view? Could the screen real estate be re-arranged to fit more on the screen?

Currently, iPad Pro is just a scaled up replica of the 9.7" interface. It's beautiful, no doubt... But not optimized.

And back to the OP, we now have some official progress toward USB 3.0 on iPad Pro!

This is just a SD card reader, but hopefully more hardware is coming.

  • ^...with speeds up to USB 2.0 :-/

    ?

It is 3.0 speeds on iPad pro.

  • Where did you read that?

Never mind, I found it. That's cool. Face palm...

When I looked at the Lightning cable of my new pro I noticed it was a tad thicker so I was wondering if it might be USB 3.0 as well but I think it's probably just because it's twice as long as the usual ones.

Yep, exactly what I meant by optomized. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm using Auria Pro now on my iPad pro and I've got no complaints, just aspirations. ;)
