Bluetooth....and apps

Got a very nice active monitor that has Bluetooth....

But to my surprise, there's a lot of apps that have no idea what Bluetooth is...I thought that it's a function of iPad that makes the connection and works. No matter what the audio source is....

Is there something that can be done, to have all apps playing with Bluetooth connection?

Is AudioBus Bluetooth? AudioShare isn't.

What makes apps Bluetooth compatible?

  • @soundklinik - the whole Bluetooth Audio business seems to be overly complicated (by iOS) when it comes to music apps. While simply listening to music would be fine, doing any realtime adjustments in the Apps will not be instantanious, due to the latency of the BT audio output.

    The last I heard ( may have changed with iOS 9.?) was; If an App enables the use of Bluetooth Audio, then both input and output are routed through it (Bluetooth). This is appearently part of how iOS works and it's ALL or Nothing. Think headsets for gaming and Voice communications. That means that if Bluetooth audio was on, the the interal mic and speakers as well as a USB Audio interface would be disabled.

    I don't know whether this iOS restriction/feature then effects all running Audio Apps or if it's on a per App basis.

    Mostly, Music Apps that can Record (from the MIC) do ot support BT Audio. One reason being, that the Latency in BT audio renders it useless for recording (Multiple tracks or overdubbing).

    Some of this may be outdated (or simply incorrect - I'm not an iOS Dev) and hopefully someone with more experience/knowledge on the subject will correct any misinformation presented.

    Any app that has audio input has Bluetooth disabled. Apple's rule. iOS limitation. Maybe they avoid accidental audio feedback where someone could route the Bluetooth input to the output by mistake.(and causing equipment and/or ear damage)

  • I always thought the reasoning was related to an inability to split bluetooth audio I/O with standard audio I/O....ie you can't have BT O/P with standard I/P.

  • Rim posted something on the Auria forum about this as well:

    "Actually, I've been told it's been more of a technical issue due to the synchronization of playback and record buffers when the output is over a wireless link"

  • I was quite surprised because iSem plays and iMini and iProphet won't, I wasn't sure about what is what...if it's up to the Dev or the Devil...
