A little MIDI help please? What do these instructions mean

I'm attempting to discover how to use midi to control Funk Drummer.
In another thread, Luis Martinez indicates that it should be possible to select individual loops (rhythms) using the following
"With Midi Control Change 32, you can change the rhythm. With CC 0, the bank.
So, it's possible to select a bank, and then an individual rhythm in that bank.

As I understand it, CC messages are a continuum from 0-127, so just sending cc message 0 isn't enough to select a bank, I must also send the bank message CC0 and the bank number, "3" for example. Do I understand that correctly?
So, theoretically, I could asign one button to send cc0-3 and another button to send cc0-4 to have buttons to sellect different banks. right?
Thanks so much! I understand enough midi to be dangerous. :)

I understand that CC stands for "continuous controller"

  • In MIDI, CC 0 is universally used as a Bank Select function. CC 32 is known as LSB (Least Significant Bit). If a controller will let you set LSB/MSB for a controller, you should be able to configure this. Some controllers don't have config options which can get this deep. I'd definitely suggest consulting your controller's manual.

  • Awesome! thanks so much I think that's what I need to know.

  • In a daw one could make tracks for the channel messages, and trigger a program change, I think th. 's the idea, yes? You press any external key(pad, etc) and can play on etc.

I.e. assigning a cc0 track out, and ditto a cc32, can't explain further, ... but 'voxkit' app or 'midiflow' would be kind of assisting.

  • ^ yep. If your hardware controller won't let you configure messages like this you could send any CC message to MIDI Flow and with the controller remapping IAP, turn that into whatever MSB/LSB you need.

  • I will join the chorus for MIDIFlow. Great app, very very useful!

First you monitor, play a key, midiflow displays the note as a certain value.
It's the principle of midi learn.
Let's ask @JohannesD if the incoming monitored cc's are actually 'spoken' to let them reassign? Thank you very much.
