What's the best wired display app for Windows currently?

I came across duet display, looks ideal but it's only 1024x768 resolution which is not mentioned, i know Air Display and Splashtop which has bad reviews and wireless anyway so was wondering about any alternatives that can run at higher resolutions, i assume not cause of how windows detects display so duet may be my best option.

It will be mainly for streaming video but i assume wired means a better overall experience using it as a touchscreen monitor? Cheers!

  • For what it's worth I think Splashtop is pretty good actually. I only use it on local mode but I can run logic on the Mac mini and control it from the iPad in the bedroom/kitchen etc. Use Dropbox or iCloud Drive to shuffle bits and pieces back and forth.

  • There's a media player app that lets you stream video from your pc to an iPad. Vlc streamer is one and media xtreme plus something is another

  • By streaming video, I presume you mean watching movies? For that I use AirAV – requires that you set up a UPNP media server on your PC, (windows media player can do this, and there are other apps as well.) this works great for me wirelessly, and runs in the background of the pc, I.e. homework can be done on that computer while someone else is streaming movies or music to their pad.
Remote control wise, maybe look at RealVNC. I use splashtop as well, but for remote access. The RealVNC app with a VNC client running on the desktop works very well wirelessly for me at home.

  • Teamviwer works really well also, I use it to remote into my work computer when I'm out on site

Just found the Wired Display so will have to check it out, cheers. Wondering of it'll run at 60fps/1080p on windows though.

Sorry i meant via my browser for some tutorial stuff, the videos are embedded so i wanted to put them on a second screen, also could potentially be a second screen for ableton live , one issue i had with wireless was latency so wasn't really usable due to lag.

thanks for the tip with Duet Display. I think it's pretty good. You can plug the iPad into a powered USB hub and it will charge the battery while you have an additional screen. And you can send audio and MIDI (with certain apps).

Duet Display does higher resolutions. On Windows you can see the new monitor and set its resolution. I tested with an iPad Pro and over 1300 pixel wide, and the labels and knobs of a VSTi plugin were still good to control. If I remember correctly you can set it to over 2000 pixels width, but it also taxes the computer CPU.

No just a second wired display, nice and simple, i have my iPad mounted under my display and use it for music production related stuff.

Oh ok, a review on the app store posted a few days ago said it only does 1024x768 and they had to ask for a refund so wanted to avoid that. If that's for certain i'll probably grab duet, the others have mixed reviews. Cheers!

I got it, won't run above 1024x768 on my laptop but it looks fine, nice and clear with ableton live and streaming some video. one things for certain, i need a second monitor but this will do in the meantime, not bad at all! A little bit of lag when mousing but my laptops a few years old. I already feel like a more productive hman being. B)

  • Works well on my desktop, can change resolution but it seems to become more unstable at higher res but 1024 is fine for visibility especially with text and stuff like that, yeah makes a nice little second monitor, been using it with Live to run metering plugins while mixing.
