what is house music these days ? it bares no resemblance to what it was when it first became known as house >:)

On and On by Jesse Saunders is often credited as the first house record ... its 121BPM

and my alltime faveroute "House" track Ajare - Way Out West .... 130 BPM

and lets not forget Gabba !! ( or maybe we should )

    140 plus BPM :D ...

This was my early days growing up with that 130 + BPM

  • See, this topic inspired me: I just made an attempt at making a house tune. In fact, house-rock, if that marriage can happen, because there are plenty of distorted lead guitars in this. Oh, 125 BPM! ;)

  • P.S.: made in Auria Pro, using DXi for most of the synths and also the drums - it's quite easy to make cool percussive sounds with FM - and Magellan for the lead on the break and the synth jam after the main guitar theme.

  • P.P.S.: Oh, and the woodblock sound is also courtesy from DXi: what an amazing synth!

Did you play the guitar actually on that?

Yes, @RustiK! I played all the guitars and the bass, and also improvised the synth solo that happens just after the main guitar theme. In fact, all the sounds I used were played, since I normally don't use loops (except for the occasional drum, but didn't used in this song anyway), and I am really not into drawing MIDI directly in the piano roll.

    All the best!

    Me neither for drawing.

Occasionally just to have a particular sound as a backing for rehearsal situations.

  • Wow guys, talking about the world without borders, music without classification. Ain't gonna happen. Enjoyed reading the thread though. Educational.

  • The thing is that in order to find that which we like...there has to be categorization..saves time..and potential headaches lol

I tend to agree, despite my own music being sometimes hard for me to categorise.

You have legends like jeff mills, despite being highly skilled djs, playing very very old tracks or new tracks made in the old way ad nauseum,

god the jeff mills thing is so boring, it the same stuff from 20 years ago ...
and its no music its just rhythm ...
    Zzzzz

  • Im talking about finding music by other people lol
