Turnado (or other) vs kaoss pad kp3+?

Anyone with both have any opinion?

I have had turnado for awhile and just started using it, now that I have an iconnectaudio4+. I'm drawn to having a standalone hardware like the kp3, but will it be worth it? Don't know if I should just save for a second iPad instead.

  • imo, save for a 2nd iPad. I have both, really don't like having RCA only for audio, doesn't sound great to me. Wound up using it as an x/y midi controller more than anything (Don't even use it for that purpose now).

  • I love my KP3 and KP2. They are great for live fun: loop finger gestures, and it has great filters, grain and stuttery stuff. Some effects just sound amazing on it. That being said, Turnado's sound possibilities are pretty spectacular. It has far more options and customizations. The effects can be super extreme. Here's my 3 gripes for Turnado:
Lots of effects basically switch off the sound because they are so extreme.
Latency is a live use killer.
Swiping and smearing around on a KP3 is always going to beat trying to use the iPad for me. You can be exact.
    Get both.

By the way, don't sleep on the KP2. The dubby delays and filters are sweet.

  • Yes- agreed- get both. They are both essentials to me. The sampling/resampling aspect of the KP with it's eight little buttons to switch on and off is the icing on the cake- and you can indeed be exact (a bit of practice is required)- it looks, feels and plays superbly. Turnado on the other hand is a manglers dream. They can both take seemingly innocuous snippets of music and transform them into something exiting and dynamic.
The KP3+ is absolutely worth the outlay and will compliment your iPad perfectly.

  • The Kaoss are really cool, but compared to turnado they are uber limited. The looping is a lil goofy too but the hardware is nice. I had a good few shows with the k-pad, then sold it. Miss it but I'd just use it as controller for turnado now hah

  • Damn, I have a KP3 just sitting neglected on the shelf in the other room, you guys have me thinking I should dust it off and have some fun with it. I recently purchased a behringer mixer with two aux effects slots that the KP3 would more than likely be a stunning addition. I plug my external gear,( synths, guitars, miss, eclectric drums, ect) into the mixer and go into a Griffin studio connect so I can record any or all of it into my IPad. It will be a breeze to add loops on the fly or the effects. The filters are nice sounding in the KP3 and the ability to record the XY pads movement is a nice feature. The four slots with four measure limit is really great however a longer sample ability would be nice. I am considering the Digitech Jamman stereo looper for that however. Boss makes that rc500 that looks sweet but a bit more than I want to spend now, but ya never know.
